About The Boathouse

The Boathouse is a fabulous four bedroom dog friendly holiday house located in the popular village of Appledore in North Devon. Ideally situated, overlooking the old boatyard and estuary and just a short stroll from a variety of places to eat, drink and shop, this characterful holiday home perfectly combines quirky features with a contemporary vibe to provide a fantastic base for a self-catering holiday. The Boathouse sleeps eight guests in four bedrooms, one of which doubles up as an impressive cinema room. Also benefiting from a private roof terrace, off road parking and a three further bedrooms, it is perfect for large families or a group of friends wanting to explore this pretty corner of North Devon.

In the picture-perfect village of Appledore you will find colourful fishing houses, winding streets and fantastic estuary views. Sitting on the estuary where the River Taw and the River Torridge meet, it is not surprising that Appledore has a long history of fishing. It is easy to potter into town and take advantage of the fantastic seafood on offer in one of the many restaurants, pubs and cafes. During the peak holiday season you can hop on board a small boat to take you to the charming village of Instow just across the estuary. Make sure you take your buckets and spades to make the most of the long stretch of dog friendly sand which is backed by sand dunes, or simply enjoy a different selection of fantastic eateries on offer. If you happen to be on holiday during the Appledore-Instow Regatta you can enjoy activities such as boat races, tug of war and crabbing, or visit during one of the art festivals that Appledore hosts throughout the year.

Just ten minutes away is the market town of Bideford where there is a wider selection of shops and restaurants. From here you can head out to sea on a fishing trip or cruise, or even pop over to Lundy for the day. Beach fans will be spoilt for choice, with the fantastic blue flag beach at Westward Ho! just three miles away and other beaches such as Clovelly, Saunton Sands and Croyde all within reach for a day out. Walkers can enjoy miles and miles of stunning footpaths along the South West Coast Path, or for a change of scenery head into to the wild and rugged landscape of Dartmoor or Exmoor National Parks. The largely traffic-free Tarka Trail is perfect for cyclists of all ages whilst outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy a day of kayaking, surfing and rafting at Skern Lodge. If you are looking for a fun filled family day out both The Milky Way and The Big Sheep are close by.

Appledore is a fantastic place to visit at any time of the year and The Boathouse is available for bookings all year round.

The Boathouse provides the perfect blend of character and charm with modern day creature comforts with accommodation split over two levels:


  • Fantastic open plan space with bright spotlights and a contemporary vibe. The leather sofa and colourful bean bags are the perfect spot to watch the 75 inch wall-mounted TV. Two single beds are set apart from the living space by a wardrobe and modern two seater table. There is also an ensuite with a walk-in shower, WC and wash basin. Often described as the 'cinema room', this space is a big hit with kids and can be accessed from either the garage or via an internal staircase.

Ground Floor:

  • Open plan kitchen, living and dining area is the hub of the house. The well equipped kitchen has everything you might need for a self-catering holiday including an electric oven and hob, full-size fridge-freezer, microwave and dishwasher. There is a large pantry to store plenty of food for a week and a wooden dining table which comfortably seats six guests. Whether you choose to switch on the TV or watch the world go by out of one of the large windows, the comfy leather sofas are the perfect place to kick back and relax at the end of the day.
  • Master bedroom with a king-size zip and link bed that can either be made up as a double or two singles, bedside tables with reading lights, a matching chest of drawers and a TV. The ensuite bathroom has a walk in shower, WC, wash basin and heated towel rail.
  • Twin bedroom with two single beds, a bedside table with reading light, chest of drawers, fitted wardrobe, full length mirror and a small TV.
  • Cabin bedroom with a small double bed tucked underneath a sky light, bedside table and reading lamp. There is an ensuite WC and hand basin. There is also a frosted side window which is close to the ground of the street outside.
  • Family bathroom with a dual head shower over the bath, WC and washbasin.

Outside: The fabulous roof terrace with a picnic table is the perfect spot for alfresco dining or enjoying a leisurely evening sundowner or morning cup of tea. There is a garage for two cars.

Additional information: WiFi, bed linen, towels and utilities are provided. Guests to supply their own bath towels. One, or possibly two, well behaved dogs are welcome at an additional charge of £30 each. Please note that barbeques are not allowed on the roof terrace. Smoking is not permitted.
