About Triangle Cottage

Triangle Cottage is a fantastic example of how easy it is to make a holiday cottage in Devon feel like a welcoming second home. The detached house sleeps six to eight guests in three bedrooms and is a favourite with families and friends who often visit to escape the hustle and bustle of modern day life. The cottage sits in a beautifully tended garden in the heart of Tawstock village by its 'triangle', just two doors away from the The Old Post Office and close to the magnificent medieval church and holy well.

Enjoying a fabulous position, Triangle Cottage affords stunning countryside views to the rear, with the comings and goings of the village to watch at the front. You will often see horses trotting past, sheep being driven along the lanes and wedding parties making their way to the church. For keen-eyed guests, you may be lucky enough to spot deer and heron from the cottage, as well enjoying the pleasure of watching spring lambs in the surrounding fields. At certain times of the year there are also village events such as the Scarecrow displays during July and August, and the Christmas Tree lighting up the 'triangle' in December.

Whether you want to simply relax in this beautiful little corner of Devon and soak up the peace and tranquility or get out and about discovering the areas many attractions, Triangle Cottage is the perfect retreat. With Barnstaple less than two miles away, footpaths straight from the front door, and an access point to the famous Tarka Trail (with 32 miles of traffic-free cycling) just over a mile away, you could not ask for a better located Devon cottage.

Barnstaple is the primary town in North Devon, with a thriving pannier market which has been selling a wide variety of local produce and goods for around 150 years. There is also a good choice of shops on the High Street, supermarkets on the outskirts of the town and indoor leisure facilities for those who enjoy swimming pool and tennis. While you’re in town, stop by the Museum of Barnstaple and North Devon. Not only does it have a collection of well-curated exhibits about the history of the local area, but it also has free entry. Other attractions include: Exmoor Zoo; Castle Hill; Arlington Court and the National Trust Carriage Museum; RHS Rosemoor and Marwood Gardens; The Big Sheep and the Milky Way for younger party members; Exeter's lovely city centre and the scenic Tarka Line train which runs between Exeter and Barnstaple (there is also a regular bus service that stops at convenient towns and villages along the route).

Croyde, Woolacombe and Westward Ho! Are all less than half an hour away by car, offering a fun day of swimming, surfing, paddleboarding, sandcastle building and poking about in rock pools. Whether you are a couple escaping for a romantic break, or a large family enjoying a traditional Devon holiday, the owners have done everything possible to ensure your stay at Triangle Cottage is a happy one.

Accommodation in Triangle Cottage is spread over two levels.

Downstairs:

  • Entry is through a solid oak door into a spacious hallway where there is room to divest yourself of boots and coats.
  • The living room is double aspect and filled with natural light during the daytime, thanks to a large window that overlooks the garden and countryside beyond. It has comfortable seating and is a relaxing space to unwind.
  • The dining room is another welcoming space, with pine table and chairs that seat six people. The honey coloured oak floor keeps the room feeling cosy all year round, while French doors open into the garden and give the space the benefit of lovely views and lots of natural light. There is also a quiet seating area in the corner of this room with additional television, as well as a highchair.
  • As with the rest of downstairs, the kitchen has stunning countryside views. The fitted cabinets provide ample storage for an excellent complement of equipment and utensils. There is a dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer (located in the garage), electric stove and oven, and microwave.
  • A family bathroom has a bath with shower attachment above, WC and handbasin.

Upstairs:

  • The first of the two double bedrooms has a double bed, bedside chests with reading lights, a tall chest of drawers and wardrobe to provide good storage and a hand basin.
  • The second double bedroom is at the front of the house overlooking the "triangle" (for which the cottage is named after). Although it is the smaller of the two double rooms, its dual aspect windows help it to feel sunny and spacious.
  • The bunk room makes great use of the space with four built-in bunk beds leaving lots of floor space to play. The owners have provided a wide choice of books and games for guests to enjoy during their stay. There is a built-in wardrobe and hand basin.
  • The modern shower room has a large walk-in shower, WC, heated towel rail and handbasin.

Outside: A spacious wooden deck with garden furniture is accessed via the dining room or outdoor stairs. It is not overlooked by any neighbours and enjoys stunning views of the garden and the fields beyond. The terraced garden is a mix of lawn and mature plants. There is a quiet seating area under a pergola decorated with climbing plants and a sheltered sunken barbecue area for relaxed outdoor meals and to watch the sun go down on a summers evening. There is also private off-street parking for two cars at the front of the cottage.

Additional Information: Triangle Cottage has WiFi, central heating and double glazing throughout. All utilities and bed linen are provided, with guests needing to bring towels and tea-towels. Short breaks are possible depending on availability, and the owners offer a discount for couples. No smoking. Sorry but no pets. High chair available. Payments are accepted via bank transfer and cheque as the preferred method as well as Paypal.
