Where to Go in Axminster

The idyllic oasis known as Trinity Hill Local Nature Reserve lies a mere five-minute drive from Axminster. A lowland heath bursting with wildlife, there are lots of different footpaths to choose from that will take you a unique way across the breathtaking scenery of the valley and you should keep an eye out for some exciting animals along the way including lizards and rare birds.

Chapel turned vintage treasure trove, The Old Chapel Antiques and Lifestyle Centre boasts a stunning grade 2 listed building that is buzzing with 20 dealers and craft sellers. From vintage clothing to collectables and antiques to railway memorabilia, you are sure to find something at Devon’s very own Aladdin’s cave.

Five minutes in the car will take you to the amazing Millers Farm Shop, a family-run store growing and selling top-quality, locally-sourced produce. Running for over forty years, this little gem offers delicious fresh fruit and vegetables that are grown on its very own soil along with seasonal plants, fish, meat, dairy products and even a selection of cider and local cheeses.

What to Do in Axminster

For a thrilling family-friendly day out, why not take a trip to Axe Valley Wildlife Park? A small zoo lies in the middle of the countryside, so expect to see a whole host of exciting creatures and even have some one-on-one time with a chosen animal; handling them, preparing their food and cleaning their homes.

For another great animal-centred activity, you can explore the stunning Devon countryside in the company of an alpaca thanks to Little Orchard Alpacas. As well as embarking on a trek with these fabulous creatures, you can make the experience extra special by combining the walk with a spot of Devonshire Cream Tea - of course the alpacas are invited too!

Escape into the idyllic countryside with a rejuvenating hike up to the highest point on the South coast of England, Golden Cap. After tackling the cliff you will be rewarded with stunning views over Lyme Bay, Dartmoor and even the Isle of Portland.

Best Time to Visit Axminster

To get the most out of Axminster, you should consider visiting during the summer months when the weather is usually at its best and less likely to limit your activities! So you should try to visit between the end of June and the start of September when the town tends to get the most sunshine and the least rain.
