About Primrose Cottage

Primrose Cottage is heartbreakingly pretty. Whitewashed cob with a thatched roof, original beams and stone fireplace, and rambling roses in the small enclosed garden, it's a charming Dartmoor holiday cottage in the picturesque village of Drewsteignton, within walking distance of the village Church and The Drewe Arms Community Pub. There's space for four people to sleep in two bedrooms, with dogs and children welcome, so it is ideal for couples or families. Primrose Cottage is steeped with centuries of welcoming hospitality you can feel as soon as you cross the threshold. If you're looking for a comfortable, homely base to explore Dartmoor's incredible scenery, this characterful holiday home is as good as it gets.

Drewsteignton is in north Dartmoor - a landscape that attracts people who like a little adventure in their lives. There are footpaths accessible from the cottage gate, leading through the beautiful River Teign valley. Energetic guests will enjoy the hilly 15-mile route between the village and Morchard Bishop. However, shorter and more gentle walks go beside the river and through the stunning countryside around Drewsteignton, including one to the riverside Fingle Bridge Inn, barely a mile from the cottage. Dartmoor is known for its moors and tors and is popular for mountain biking, horse riding, and climbing with routes including the West Devon Way, Granite Way, and Two Castles Trail.

Dartmoor is a favourite year-round holiday destination for thousands of people for the beauty and variety of the landscape, attractions, towns and villages. North Dartmoor protects a wealth of flora and fauna that thrive in the rugged landscape, sheltering around the tors, in valleys and moorland. Local attractions include the Okehampton Adventure Park, castles at Okehampton and Launceston, National Trust properties like Castle Drogo, and Exeter's cathedral, shops and restaurants. Walk or fish the shores beside Fernworthy Reservoir before stopping at nearby Chagford for lunch and window shopping. A historic old stannary town, Chagford has a butcher, bakery, dairy, deli, newsagent, small supermarket, excellent hardware store and an all important wine shop. A day at the seaside is as easy as a 40-minute drive to the English Riviera with beautiful beaches and the beaches on Devon's glorious Jurassic coast.

After a day out come home to an open fire or maybe an evening at The Drewe Arms.  The pub is now in community ownership and has been saved for generations to come.  It is a unique place, one of only a handful of pubs left in the country with a hatch into the Tap Room rather than an open bar.  You will always find a friendly welcome and may even be challenged to a game of darts!

Primrose Cottage is available for holiday bookings all year round. Guests rave about its comfort and charm, and how it feels more like a home than a rental thanks to the owner's welcoming touches. Many visitors return year after year, which is the biggest testament to its appeal.

Accommodation Comprises:

Primrose Cottage is a 17th Century cottage that has been sympathetically modernised to be comfortable for guests without sacrificing all of the quirks and charm of a building that's over 200 years old (including some low beams!).

Downstairs:

  • Sitting room looking out over the garden, comfortable seating for reading or watching TV, and a cosy open fire in the original fireplace.
  • Snug/small sitting room with more seating and a TV. It's perfect for guests who want half an hour's peace or a quiet spot for a snooze after Sunday lunch.
  • Country kitchen/diner with a modern two oven AGA with traditional hot plate and induction hob, plus a microwave and separate smart oven. It's very well equipped for self-catering and includes a dishwasher and a washer/dryer. The dining table seats four people and looks out into the garden.

Upstairs:

  • Master bedroom with a king-size bed, high ceiling with oak beams, dual aspect windows, and proper storage.
  • Second bedroom with two full-sized single beds separated by a bedside table with a reading light and a chest of drawers.
  • Tiled bathroom with a shower over the bath, WC and a handbasin.

Outside: The cottage is next to the village church and has a very small enclosed front garden with a table and chairs for relaxing in the sunshine with a cup of coffee. There's free parking on the road outside or a short walk away in the village car park.

Additional Information: Utilities, WiFi, bed linen, towels (please bring beach towels), and an initial supply of firewood are included. More wood is available to buy locally. Children are welcome, but please be aware that the internal stairs are steep. Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome (an extra charge applies). Smoking is not permitted. Short breaks may be available out of peak season - please enquire.
