Stable at Eastacott Barton is simply breathtaking. The former threshing barn retains its incredible high ceilings with exposed beams and even some of the original machinery, yet has been sympathetically converted to the highest standard to provide 5-Star Gold accommodation for up to six people in three spacious ensuite bedrooms - one on the ground floor. Its central location close to beautiful North Devon beaches and the Exmoor National Park makes it perfect for families or friends searching for somewhere special to stay.
Eastacott Barton is less than two miles from Umberleigh, where the village pub, The Rising Sun, is a favourite with locals and the lucky visitors who discover it. It sits beside the River Taw, and there is a train station which is on the Tarka Line that runs between Barnstaple and Exeter so you can easily leave the car behind and spend a day in the historic cathedral city, or follow the Tarka Line Ale Trail that incorporates some of the best pubs in the county. Military buffs should make a detour to the Cobbaton Combat Collection - a private and eclectic mix of militaria and vehicles collected and curated by the owner.
The lively market town of Barnstaple is ten miles north of Eastacott Barton. It is the best place to buy food and drink for your self-catering holiday as not only does it have several supermarkets, but it also has a thriving indoor market with the general market days being on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. Barnstaple is at the mouth of the River Taw and a favourite spot for holidaymakers. More locally the market town of South Molton offers a range of independent retailers and a market on Thursday and Saturday. Other attractions include Exmoor Zoo, RHS Rosemoor Gardens and Arlington Court with its Carriage Museum.
North Devon’s coast and countryside are just begging to be enjoyed, and opportunities to do so are plentiful regardless of your age or physical ability. The Tarka Trail crosses through beautiful country and is a particular favourite with families as it is mainly flat and traffic free. You can walk, or hire bikes in Barnstaple if you do not have your own. Also close is the South West Coastal Path where the views from the footpath going through Lynton, the Valley of the Rocks with its wild goats and Heddon Valley are stunning.
Within a short drive, you can be setting up your deckchair or spreading out your towel at Woolacombe, Croyde Bay or Westward Ho!. Surfing, stand-up paddle boarding, canoeing and windsurfing are popular on this stretch of coast, and there are surf schools where you can learn if you do not already have the skill. Adventurous types should try coasteering, while more sedate visitors may prefer a round of golf on the clifftop course at Mortehoe, the Royal North Devon at Westward Ho! (the oldest golf course in the UK) or Saunton Sands with its championship courses.
The estate on which Stable sits is 27 private acres of meadows and woodlands and includes two fishing lakes which are for the exclusive use of guests. There is a second, equally luxurious barn next to Stable which also sleeps six people, and the two can be booked together to accommodate larger groups so you can bring the whole family together for a special celebration, fun summer holiday or an unforgettable Christmas.
