About Jasmine Cottage

Jasmine Cottage welcomes guests with open arms, inviting them to sit down and enjoy the stunning views of the lush South Hams countryside to the clear water of Start Bay. Recently refurbished with a brand new kitchen for 2021, the mid-terrace stone cottage comfortably sleeps up to four people in two bedrooms and is very dog-friendly. The welcoming Cricket Inn is within walking distance as is North Hallsands Beach and the South West Coast Footpath.

There is never a bad time to have a holiday in Devon. The countryside is stunning in every season while the views from the cliff and beach range from gentle to dramatic, depending on the weather. On a sunny day, you can walk to the beach to swim, surf or sit and watch the waves, while winter days were made for invigorating coastal walks followed by relaxing in front of the wood-burning stove in the cosy sitting room and watching a storm roll-in.

The cottage is on a quiet lane on a non-working family-run farm within easy reach of Kingbridge, Salcombe and Dartmouth. The area has a rich agricultural and farming history with attractions like the Salcombe Maritime Museum, Cookworthy Museum and Dartmouth Castle giving a glimpse into the lives of those who shaped the landscape. There is a choice of wonderful places to eat and drink within a few miles and the owners are happy to recommend some of their favourite pubs and restaurants.

Walking is a favourite pastime in Devon. In addition to the South West Coast Path, a good route to get you started includes the half-mile walk from the cottage to Start Point Lighthouse. Many of the beaches in the vicinity are dog-friendly for at least part of the year, if not all year round, but because the cottage sits in six acres of countryside and woodland, you only have to open the door for walkies! If you want to give your legs a really good stretch, then take advantage of having Dartmoor National Park, Widecombe-in-the-Moor and the Avon Dam close by. Whatever your preferred type of route, there is a path here that is perfect for you.

The owners of Jasmine Cottage have two other cottages to rent in Devon, each of which can be booked individually or with one or both of the others to accommodate extended families or friends who want to holiday together.

Jasmine is a period property which has been updated to provide comfortable accommodation over two levels.

Downstairs:

  • A relaxing sitting room runs from the front to the rear of the cottage with a big window that lets in lots of natural light and showcases fantastic views. There is a selection of family-friendly books and games as well as a TV with a DVD player and a DAB radio. The highlight in winter is the wood-burner which adds warmth and ambience to the already comfortable space. There is also superfast broadband.
  • Kitchen/diner with modern appliances and ample crockery, cutlery and utensils. The solid wood table and chairs seat four people. The owners have provided a washing machine for guests' convenience.

Upstairs:

  • Stairs lead from the sitting room to the upstairs landing off which are two bedrooms, a bathroom and a separate WC. A door leads from the landing to the gravel terrace outside.
  • Master bedroom with a king-sized bed, wardrobe and a chest of drawers.
  • Second bedroom with two full-sized (3ft-wide) single beds, a chest of drawers and a wardrobe.
  • Shower room with a walk-in shower, heated towel rail, WC and handbasin.
  • Separate cloakroom with a WC and handbasin.

Outside: In addition to the shared use of six acres of countryside and woodland, guests have a private terrace with garden furniture and a barbecue. EV Electric Vehicle charging is available (for an additional charge) at the neighbouring property with a Zappi charger.

Additional Information: All utilities, bed linen and kitchen linen is provided. Towels are not provided but are available should you wish to hire. Dogs are welcome at a charge of £25 per dog. Please let the owner know when you are booking and if you wish to bring more than one dog please enquire. Short breaks are possible apart from during the peak weeks. Smoking is not permitted.
