Corby Gates Farmhouse is brimming with Cumbrian charm with size and location, perfect for a self-catering holiday with family and friends. The large holiday home is on a family-run Cumbrian sheep farm on Alston Moor in the North Pennines AONB, with beautiful views and direct access to fantastic walks and cycling routes. It comfortably sleeps up to 16 people in eight bedrooms with a big farmhouse kitchen and a spacious living room where you can get together with family and friends to celebrate events like Christmas, milestone birthdays, and family reunions.
You couldn't wish for a better location than Alston for a relaxing holiday in the Cumbrian countryside. The pretty market town is the highest in England and is under a mile from the cottage. Even a simple journey to collect bread is memorable, especially if you go via the Hartside Pass (A686) through Alston between Penrith and Corbridge, named by the AA Magazine as one of their worldwide top ten scenic drives. Five spectacular trans-Pennine routes meet at Alston, giving you endless miles of places for walking and mountain biking as well as cycling and driving. There's a great variety of amenities within a 20-minute walk of the farmhouse, including shops, pubs, tea rooms, butchers, bakers and yes, even a candlemaker! Moorlands have been hand-dipping candles for decades and are one of the few places in the UK to do so.
You'll find plenty to keep you and your guests happily occupied during your holiday, no matter what the season. Walk around the farm, following the fields to Blagill Burn and the River Nent to admire waterfalls and try your luck fishing. The owners carefully manage the landscape with the Cumbria Wildlife Trust to protect the environment as a habitat for native red squirrels, water voles, and dozens of other species. Walkers can tackle a stretch of the Pennine Way and footpaths to High Cup Nick and Cross Fell. The C2C Sustrans cycling route passes close to the farm gate, and there are bridleways for mountain biking and pony trekking. Local attractions include Alston narrow gauge railway, Ashgill Force and High Force waterfalls, Hadrian's Wall, Kielder Lake, the Rheged Centre, and the Settle to Carlisle Railway. You're also within easy reach of Ullswater and the north of the Lake District National Park.
