Bowness-on-Windermere is a pretty town beside one of the biggest lakes in England. It's famous for its excellent amenities and beautiful walks - you can set stride from the cottage to Orrest Head, Brant Fell, and Ambleside, to name a few favourite routes. Popular Lake District attractions in or close to Bowness include The World of Beatrix Potter, Holehird Gardens, Blackwell Arts and Crafts House, and the Windermere Ferry. Hire a boat, canoe or SUP, or jump on your bike and explore the lake's circumference. Attractions nearby include Hill Top, where Beatrix Potter brought her charming characters to life, Brockhole, the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway at Newby Bridge, The Lakes Aquarium, and the Lakeland Motor Museum. Literature lovers can visit Dove Cottage and the Wordsworth Museum in Grasmere. At the same time, those with an adventurous spirit can tackle the Go Ape high ropes course or exhilarating mountain bike trails at Grizedale Forest.
