Pendragon View is a perfect get away from it all hideaway in the peaceful Mallerstang valley in Cumbria. This lovely stone cottage, converted by current owners from a formal field barn, is close to Kirkby Stephen, sleeps four people in two bedrooms and is perfect for couples, families or friends. As lovely and comfortable as the cottage is - it is the location that is truly outstanding. Set off in any direction, and you will find yourself surrounded by stunning scenery with endless miles of trails for walking or cycling. The cottage enjoys unspoilt views of surrounding fells and only a short stroll from the front door is Pendragon Castle built, as legend states, by Uther Pendragon - the father of King Arthur.
Kirkby Stephen is a pretty market town at the head of the Eden Valley. It’s a favourite with walkers, mountain bikers and other outdoor enthusiasts. The amenities on offer include a variety of independent shops, dog friendly cafes, pubs, Tourist Information Centre, cycle hire and other businesses. Visit St. Stephen’s Church to look at the Loki Stone - one of the few remaining remnants of Viking settlement in Cumbria. Discover the Poetry path or on a sunny day enjoy a peaceful picnic on the bank of the river Eden by the Frank's Bridge. Train enthusiasts will appreciate a journey on the famous Settle to Carlisle Railway and the collection of vintage train engines at Kirkby Stephen East Station.
Alfred Wainwright’s Coast to Coast Walk passes through Kirkby Stephen, and The Northern Viaducts Walk is another local trail to consider. Other destinations include the Nine Standards Rigg, Hawes (home to the famous Wensleydale Creamery), the Yorkshire Three Peaks (Ingleborough, Whernside and Pen-yGhent), White Scar Cave, Aysgarth Falls, Lowther castle, Windermere, Ullswater, Bowes Museum to name a few. And after a busy day exploring, incredible night skies awaits.
Pendragon View is set in the north of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, close to the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and the Lake District National Park, so there is always somewhere wonderful to visit, explore and enjoy. The cottage is available all year round. Up to two dogs are welcome at a small charge.
