Watersedge Retreat has beautiful views over the River Kent Estuary and is a gorgeous place to escape for a break with your family, your partner, or with your dog! The two-bedroom holiday home has recently been redecorated and is very well presented, offering four guests a high standard of accommodation in a location you'll adore. It's in the Arnside & Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the hamlet of Sandside, just over the water from the southern Lake District and within a short drive of the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the Forest of Bowland AONB.
Sandside is breathtaking, with sublime views and loads of opportunities for walking and cycling. Although barely 15 miles from the southern shore of Windermere and less than ten minutes from Kendal, the number of visitors is far fewer than the Lakes, which means it always feels tranquil, even in the busy school holiday season. The nearest amenities are just over a mile away in the market town of Milnthorpe, where there are two small supermarkets, pubs, restaurants and cafes and there are also plenty of cafes, tea rooms and pubs just five minutes away in the coastal village of Arnside.
Much of the Arnside and Silverdale landscape is expertly managed by the National Trust. A favourite walk is a circular route to the top of Arnside Knott, from which you have views of Morecambe Bay, the Lakeland fells, Yorkshire Dales and the Lancashire countryside. Jack Scout is another beautiful route, and you also have miles of coastal routes and woodland trails to enjoy.
Local attractions include Lakeland Wildlife Oasis, Heron Corn Mill, Sizergh Castle, and National Trust Levens Hall. Take a short train trip over to the lovely Victorian seaside town Grange over Sands or visit Cartmel to try the renowned sticky toffee pudding. Alternatively, enjoy a sightseeing boat trip or hire a kayak or boat on Lake Windermere. Local guides can tailor a walk, mountain bike ride, pony trek, or driving route to suit your interests and help you get the most from your time here. Alfred Wainwright knew every corner of the Lake District and wrote in one of his famous guides that "there's no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing". Bring your sunhat and your waterproofs and there's nothing you can't do during your holiday at Watersedge Retreat.
