Arthur's Croft is a lovely Victorian terrace in the Cumbrian town of Penrith. There is plenty of space for four people to sleep in two bedrooms, so it's perfect for families or friends. The size and the style of furnishing make it equally welcoming for couples or even individuals who want a convenient and comfortable holiday cottage from which to explore the Lake District, North Pennines, Yorkshire Dales, Hadrian's Wall, and the English-Scottish border. The house is just outside the town centre, a short walk from shops, cafes, galleries, and friendly pubs like the Dockray Hall.
It's hard not to be inspired by the fantastic Cumbrian landscape around Penrith. You'll find many locals (including the owners of Arthur's Croft, who live next door) are artists, photographers, designers, writers, and other creatives, adding another layer of interest to this already fascinating corner of England. You don't have to be artistic to appreciate the beauty of Penrith and the surrounding areas. It's hugely popular with walkers who love the number and diversity of footpaths, including those through the Lowther Estate and to places like Brothers Water, Gowbarrow Fell and Aira Force, Selside Pike, Hartsop, High Cup Nick, and the Far Eastern Fells so loved by Arthur Wainwright. The terrain also lends itself well to mountain biking and cycling.
There's a location to suit every mood when you stay at Arthur's Croft. The owners Simon and Gwen have provided a guide to local artistic spaces, such as the Bowes Museum, current exhibitions, music evenings, and local artists studios to visit. If you yearn for space and open skies, then head for the fells. Walk in the footsteps of the Romans along Hadrian's Wall or soak up the history of Penrith Castle. Alternatively, go climbing, open water swimming, fishing, boating and kayaking. We can't imagine you'll tire of the Lakes but, if you need a change of scenery, the Solway Coast, North Pennines and Yorkshire Dales are all within an easy drive, as are busy places like Kendal, Keswick, and Grasmere.
Arthur's Croft welcomes guests all year round and is also ideal for the environmentally minded with the train station a ten minute walk away and the local bus station within five minutes.
