April Cottage is a heavenly property in a spectacular spot a short five-minute stroll from the centre of Grasmere. If you're visiting the Lake District for the views, you will fall in love with this holiday home, which sleeps four people in three bedrooms and has been rated 4-Stars by Visit England for its comfort and self-catering facilities. One dog is welcome (two by arrangement), and the accommodation suits guests of all ages, being warm and welcoming no matter what season you're here. April Cottage has been part of the Grasmere scenery for over 200 years. Why not stay here and add your unique footnote to its history?
The beauty of Grasmere was immortalised by William Wordsworth, the Romantic poet who spent most of his life in the village. His house, Rydal Mount, is open to the public, as is Allan Bank. Wordsworth is buried in the churchyard next to a field named after his daughter, which is a sea of daffodils in spring. Lakeland fells rise dramatically above the village and attract walkers like a magnet. Walk along Red Bank Road to Rydal Water (popular for swimming and rowing) and take the footpath to Loughrigg Terrace and its cave. Other destinations include Alcock Tarn, Easdale Tarn, and Loughrigg Fell. Easedale Beck flows into the River Rothay, which loops around the village and provides scenic spots for fishing and picnicking. Grasmere Gingerbread is a treat your tastebuds will never forget. You can buy it from the shop where it was invented in 1854, along with that other Lake District favourite, Kendal Mint Cake.
Grasmere is in the centre of the Lake District National Park, adding to its appeal as a holiday destination. From here, you can get to the base of Scafell Pike and the Aira Force waterfall in half an hour, and Windermere and Keswick in 20 minutes. It isn't only the views from the Kirkstone Pass that will leave you breathless if you're a cyclist, as it has almost one thousand feet of elevation between Ambleside and Patterdale.
