Garden Cottage at Howe Foot provides a unique opportunity for couples to stay in an enchanting cosy holiday cottage, set amongst beautiful countryside in the hamlet of Lowick, just two miles from Coniston Water within the Lake District National Park.
Completely separate from the main house, Garden Cottage is one of two romantic holiday retreats specifically for couples in an idyllic tranquil setting just a few miles from the southern tip of Lake Windermere. The two properties sit within an acre of well maintained grounds with a beck and little bridge at the entrance and are opposite Lowick Common, which is owned by the Cumbria Wildlife Trust and a Nature Reserve.
Formerly a workshop for Oak Swill Basket Making (a traditional local craft for hundreds of years), Garden Cottage has now been fully restored to provide a delightful retreat with lots of character including oak beams, a wood burning stove, a Rayburn in the kitchen and slate floors with rugs. Outside, guest's have a private patio for relaxation and enjoying the lovely views - a true hidden gem and just perfect for a special break at any time of the year.
Conveniently located, this area provides the best of both worlds - a peaceful setting where you can relax and unwind, yet plenty of amenities and attractions close at hand. Coniston Water (the third largest of the lakes) is just two miles away. The market town of Ulverston with its independent shops, old pubs, supermarket, cafes and good restaurants is only six miles and from here you can enjoy bracing walks on the Cumbria Way. Visit Cartmel village and enjoy their famous sticky toffee pudding or treat yourself to a visit to Michelin Star L'Enclume (a must for foodies but advance booking essential!). Alternatively, sample the local ale at one of the two local pubs - both under a mile away from the cottage!
The pretty hamlet of Lowick is made up of traditional old farmhouses and the area has some beautiful views over Coniston Water and Coniston Fells beyond. Here you can enjoy plenty of outdoor activities including mountain biking, fantastic walking to suit all abilities, pony trekking, climbing and excellent golf with approximately six clubs within a fifteen mile radius. The many attractions of the Lake District National Park are within easy reach, as is the beautiful Furness Coast with its wonderful sandy beaches.
Whether you are looking for a base from which to explore the areas many attractions or want to simply relax amongst beautiful countryside, Garden Cottage is sure to please!
