Otley Beck Cottage is a dreamy retreat where couples can leave the real world behind, even if only for a few days. It sits peacefully in the rural hamlet of Lowick just two miles from Coniston Water and near to some of the finest walks in the Lake District National Park. Otley Beck is one of two Howe Foot cottages and is set within an acre of mature gardens, offering space, privacy and breathtaking views.
Crossing the beck into Howe Foot feels as if you're stepping back in time in the nicest possible way. There is no annoying traffic noise to wake you up in the morning, and no light pollution to dim the brilliance of the night skies. The cottage also has a timeless charm with reassuringly solid oak beams and lots of other natural textures and colours. At the same time, Otley Beck is wonderfully contemporary with spacious rooms and modern comforts that will make your stay one you will happily remember and want to repeat.
Coniston Water, the third largest of the lakes, is just two miles away and easy to reach on foot or by bike if you'd prefer not to drive. Do your shopping, enjoy a pub meal or a slice of cake and a coffee six miles away in Ulverston, which boasts the world's only museum dedicated to comedy duo, Laurel and Hardy. Ulverston is home to the Lakes Glass Blowing Centre, a popular theatre with an excellent calendar of events, and the starting point for the Cumbrian Way footpath which runs for 70 miles between Ulverston and Carlisle. Make a reservation at the two-Michelin starred L'Enclume restaurant to celebrate (or make) a special occasion, or treat your sweet tooth to some sticky toffee pudding in Cartmel, where the favourite dessert was invented.
Staying at Otley Beck Cottage means you are not only close to the lakes and mountains, but also the beautiful beaches on the Cumbrian coast as well. Day trips can include walking around Hawkshead, mountain biking in Grizedale Forest and sailing on Coniston Water. Admire the gorgeous Holker Hall and its gardens, paddleboard or fish on Windermere, play a daily round of golf, walk for miles under a vast open sky, or pack a picnic and find a quiet spot for lunch and a snooze in the sunshine. It is the perfect holiday destination in all seasons.
