Fawcett Mill is located by a stream, in sight of its waterfall, in 7 acres of meadowland in deep Cumbrian countryside in the Yorkshire Dales & right alongside the Lake District National Park, being fortunate in being close to the attractions of both. It offers exclusive off road parking for 6/8 vehicles. It is a gem of a country location for enjoyment of country quietness, & scenery & for discrete celebration of milestone family events such as birthdays & anniversaries & other families get togethers with the cottage itself specifically set up to self cater for such events. The cottage is youngster friendly with cots and high chairs and dog friendly too…the latter by arrangement. With open fire, log burner, indoor sauna, wood beams, old range, and outdoors a stone bbq, pub style table/benches & umbrellas overlooking the stream, & hot tub by arrangement, all adding to a great relaxing experience, the cottage is not without modern comforts. There is full cottage central heating, 2 well equipped modern kitchens, the small often used as “the bar”, American style fridge /freezer, dish washers, washing machines, free wifi & Freesat TVs.
located near to the picturesque and much photographed village of Orton, which is often considered by the locals as being quieter than other parts of the Lake District. The Lune Valley and Upper Eden Valley are also both close by. Fawcett Mill is a great base from which to take day trips by car to explore Northumbria and the Yorkshire Dales National Park, as well as the Lake District National Park. Of course, there are many great walks and much exploring straight from the front door, including the Howgill mountains, a must for hill walkers, nature lovers and photographers alike. The quiet, narrow country lanes are popular too with cyclists.
Orton itself is a medieval village with its church dating back to the 13th Century. However many of the houses and cottages in the village date back to 17th and 18th Centuries. In the village you will find our pub, The George, and the village Post Office shop & an amazing onsite chocolate manufacturer and shop, Kennedy’s Chocolates. Orton is a strong farming village and enjoys a local farmers market every 2nd Saturday of the month
