Wild and rugged, Cumbria is known for its abundance of outdoor activities. From gentle lakeside strolls, to wind swept coastal walks and challenging mountainous hikes, there is a walk for every man and their dog. The vast and impressive Lake District National Park offers the serious walker a number of options. Scale Scafell Pike, the highest mountain in England, or enjoy the stunning panoramic views over Derwentwater after climbing Catbells. Make sure you visit Keswick, often noted as the UK's most dog-friendly town, on the way back down.
If you are looking for something a little more sedate take a gentle lakeside stroll around Derwentwater or tackle one of the forest trails at Grizedale and Whinlater. Alternatively embrace the salty sea air and head to one of the dog friendly beaches at Haverigg, Ravenglass or St Bees. The dog friendly Ravenglass and Erskdale Steam Railway is a great way to explore the surrounding area and dogs even receive their own welcome pack with treats.
There are numerous National Trust properties and stately homes to explore with your four legged friends. Dogs on leads are welcome both downstairs inside the house and in the garden at Allan Bank and Grasmere. Or visit Fell Foot, at the southern tip of Windermere where dogs are welcome in the park and meadow. Dogs are also welcome on a lead to explore the grounds at Lowther Castle and Gardens and Muncaster Castle Gardens.
Cumbria is a fantastic place to take your dog on holiday and we have a great selection of dog friendly cottages for you and your four legged friends to stay.
