Whitegates Lodge offers the perfect place to relax in a secluded private lodge in the beautiful Kent countryside.
On the borders of East Sussex and Kent, Stone Cum Ebony nestles in the Weald of Kent. Although in a way, Stone Cum Ebony exists in name only, (but don’t let the inhabitants hear you say that!) It’s a hamlet midway between the Village of Stone, and another hamlet of Ebony, surrounded by rolling fields, and overlooked by country views.
Stone-cum–Ebony is within easy reach of Camber Sands, Hastings and of course the sea .The Port of Dover is just 40 minutes away, providing easy access to the ferry to France. Folkestone is a little closer, and from here you can take your car across to the continent, by way of the Channel Tunnel. Alternatively, Ashford International Station is about 20 minutes away, and Eurostar will take you in comfort to Lille, Brussels or Paris from here, if you wish.
The historic town of Rye, with it's cobbled streets and numerous restaurants is just six miles to the South. Here, at dusk, it is easy to visualise the smugglers of old, lurking in the doorways of the narrow hilly town streets, hiding their illegal casks of rum and brandy recently landed from France. During the day there are the sights of the town itself, and the harbour to enjoy.
To the North, at a similar distance, is the lovely town of Tenterden rightly named “The Jewel of the Weald”, where the wide tree lined High Street, beckons the holiday stroller, and the interested shopper. Helen Terry’s cottage the home of the famous English actor is to be found here, as is the Kent and East Sussex Railway, a blast from the past, with steam trains running on a regular basis, a must for the enthusiast and interested alike.
Close to Stone is the Romney Marsh, beloved of the dedicated birdwatcher, some times called “twitcher” with many lovely walks to enjoy.
