Plum Pudding Barn is a bold and characterful converted farm building set among open countryside near Sheldwich, operating as a generous holiday rental near Faversham for families and larger groups who want space to properly unwind. Sleeping 10 across four bedrooms, with sofa beds allowing numbers to increase to 14, this is a group holiday home in the Kent countryside that balances comfort with a sense of occasion. The layout is sociable without feeling crowded; the open-plan living space centres around a wood burner that draws everyone together after a day outside, while a separate games room gives teenagers and competitive adults somewhere to disappear to. Outside, the heated seasonal swimming pool and hot tub quickly become the focal point, and the large garden with play area means children are also catered for. It's a house designed for long conversations, slow breakfasts and evenings that stretch on without anyone watching the clock.
A short drive away lies Faversham, one of Kent's most appealing market towns. Its historic streets are lined with independent shops, family-run cafés and traditional pubs, and the town still hosts a lively weekly market. Faversham is also known for its brewing heritage and creekside setting, giving it a slightly maritime feel despite its rural surroundings. Day-to-day essentials are easy to pick up here, but it's the atmosphere that tends to linger as it's relaxed, friendly and distinctly local rather than tourist-led. Slightly further on, Canterbury offers cathedral visits, theatre productions and a wider choice of restaurants, all within comfortable reach for a change of pace.
Beyond Sheldwich, Kent stretches out in a way that makes it easy to fill your days with little effort. One morning might mean a long walk across the slopes of the Kent Downs, where you stop more than once just to take in the view. Another could take you towards the coast at Whitstable, where fishing boats sit in the harbour, and people wander the shingle with a cup of coffee in hand. If you're in the mood for history with a bit of scale, Leeds Castle is close enough for an easy day out; its grounds are wide enough to let children run ahead while the adults follow more slowly. And when everyone's had enough fresh air, you can head back to the barn, shut the gate behind you and settle in to swim, soak, cook outside, light the fire in peace and privacy.
