Smugglers' Cottage can accommodate two to four guests and is a delightful holiday cottage located on the Kent coast in the seaside town of Deal. Deal is one of Kent's best kept secrets and is great if you enjoy cycling, golf, walking and visiting historic buildings with three castles nearby!
This bijou Grade II listed holiday cottage is approximately two hundred and fifty years old and ideally located in the very heart of the conservation area, just metres from the sea and beach. Sympathetically modernised, this charming cottage retains original features including the lovely exposed brick fireplaces which houses a gas fired stove.
Named Number One in The Daily Telegraph 'Top 10 Spots to Lay your Towel', Deal has the only remaining post-war pier in the country (named 'Pier of the Year 2008') which has a stunning cafe at the end, with magnificent views out to sea. Conveniently located, the beach is just a few metres from Smugglers' Cottage and the high street with its independent shops (including a butchers, fishmongers and artisan bakers) is just a ten minute stroll. Deal has many restaurants and cafes, along with charming historic, friendly pubs.
The surrounding area has much to offer with plenty of attractions. There are three golf courses nearby, along with the castles at Deal, Dover and Walmer. Dover castle is particularly fascinating with its medieval and World War II secret tunnels and underground hospital.
Deal is popular with fishermen and cyclists who can enjoy the coastal cycle path. There are some fantastic coastal walks to enjoy including walking along the famous White Cliffs of Dover to the Victorian South Foreland lighthouse, where you can take in the breathtaking views.
The historic city of Canterbury is within easy reach with its beautiful cathedral and good selection of shops and restaurants and Deal is well placed for taking a day trip to France from Dover or Folkestone which are both nearby.

Accommodation comprises:
One double bedroom with a twin bedroom above it - due to the historic layout of this period cottage, the twin bedroom is accessed via the double bedroom (but the twin bedroom does have a door for privacy).
Kitchen with electric oven and hob, slimline dishwasher, microwave, built in fridge, toaster, kettle and a full range of utensils, along with cafetiere. Smugglers' Cottage is a compact cosy cottage with no separate dining area. However, there is a breakfast bar with two stools and also a fold down table comfortably seating two or four at a push.
Living room with gas fired stove, flatscreen television with DVD player, CD hi-fi system (with ipod connector) and a selection of books, DVDs and CDs for guests' enjoyment.
First floor bathroom which is located a few steps down and up from the first floor double bedroom. This is light, airy and modern and has a bath with shower attachment. A starter pack of bath gel soap and shampoo is provided.
Outside: There is a charming small courtyard with white walls, plants and a cafe table with four chairs. There is also what used to be the 'privy' which today stores the washing machine.
Additional information: There is free parking available round the corner either on the side roads or on the sea front. A welcome pack is provided for arrival. Luxurious cotton bed linen and Egyptian cotton towels are provided and included in the price. Weekend and short breaks (minimum three nights) are considered out of high season. There is a £25 per week heating supplement from October to April, or £4 per night for short breaks. The cottage is not suitable for those with any mobility limitations, due to the historic steep and winding stairs.
