Durlock Studio is a quiet cottage in the Kent countryside. The studio-style cottage has a large room divided into spaces for sitting and sleeping, a separate kitchen, shower room, and a garden. It's ideal for one or two people who want a peaceful place where they can retreat from the daily grind and enjoy a more gentle pace of life, even if only for a short while. The cottage is part of Durlock Lodge, the owner's home, which dates from the 1700s. It is in Minster-in-Thanet, opposite a Benedictine abbey and within walking distance of shops, cafes and three excellent pubs that include The Bell Inn.
Minster-in-Thanet, sometimes just called Minster, is a hidden gem. The quiet village is a favourite with commuters for its fast train links to Canterbury and London, yet feels friendly and welcoming, just like a traditional English village should. The kitchen is well-equipped for self-catering, but there are plenty of options if you want to eat out. In addition to three pubs, the village has the award-winning Corner House restaurant. You can leave the cottage and walk for hours along the extensive network of footpaths in the area accessible from the village. The North Downs Way is nearby, and there are other lovely walks through the Stour Valley and Wye Hill and along the coast.
Broadstairs, Margate and Ramsgate are only a short drive from Durlock Studio, with lovely beaches looking out into the English Channel and a wide variety of seaside attractions and entertainment. Herne Bay is also within easy reach, as are Sandwich and Pegwell Bay. You could even bring your passport and take a day trip to France from Dover or Folkestone.
Minster's mainline train station is around a five-minute walk from Durlock Studio, with regular services to Canterbury in the west and Ramsgate and Sandwich in the east. The Canterbury journey is only 15 minutes, so it's effortless to plan a full day of sightseeing in this fascinating city. The owners run a boutique B&B and can answer any questions you have about the local area and how to make the most of your stay.
