The Annexe is a gorgeous addition to Yew Tree Cottage, which is in the quiet village of Wick two miles from South Cotswold. The one-bedroom cottage is perfect for couples or solo travellers who want the enjoy not only the beautiful South Gloucestershire countryside but who also want easy access to the sights and attractions of Bristol and Bath. Visit Britain has awarded the high standard of accommodation a 4-Star Gold Rating.
Wick is on the border of the Golden Valley Nature Reserve, where there are lovely walks through woodland and beside the River Boyd. It's a wonderful place where you can switch off and relax, swapping the noise and stress of your daily life with the soothing sounds of rustling leaves, gurgling water and birdsong. The cottage is about a mile or a 20-minute walk from the village centre, where there is a Grade-II listed church, a small but well-stocked supermarket, a fish and chip shop, and the friendly Rose & Crown pub. Don't be surprised to see hot air balloons drifting overhead as you enjoy a morning cup of tea or an evening glass of wine in the garden - a nearby field is a favourite landing spot for balloonists.
The Annexe is only a 20-minute drive from the historic city of Bath where you can easily lose a day or two visiting its many attractions. Best known for the incredibly well-preserved Roman Baths, the city is packed with beautiful sights that include the elegant Royal Crescent, the magnificent Bath Abbey, the Georgian Assembly Rooms where Jane Austen danced and which also house the excellent Fashion Museum. Bath's shops are a fantastic mix of high street names and independent traders, including regular specialist markets. There is an excellent variety of places to eat and drink to suit every taste and budget.
Bristol is only eight miles from the cottage. It's a fantastic city with a lively buzz, a wide array of shops, museums and attractions, and plenty of places to eat and drink. Bristol Zoo is just outside of the city centre, and it's worth going a little bit out of your way to drive or walk over the iconic Clifton Suspension Bridge (£1 for cars, free for pedestrians).
Spend lazy days wandering around National Trust properties such as Dyrham Park, Lacock and Lacock Abbey, Newark Park, and Prior Park Landscape Garden. Other attractions within easy reach include Westonbirt Arboretum, the Slimbridge Wetland Centre, Longleat Safari Park, Castle Combe, Wells, Cheddar Gorge, and Stonehenge.
