Stable Cottage is a fantastic spot for your self-catering Cotswold break where you can treat yourself to staying in the heart of Painswick, arguably the most authentically preserved Cotswold wool town. This converted stable sleeps up to four people, making it a great Cotswold holiday cottage for couples, small families, or friends looking to catch up and relax together. The cottage has two comfy bedrooms, a modern kitchen, and a cosy living room with ample seating, books and a Smart TV. There’s also a private garden where you can play pentaque and have a BBQ. Plus, it’s less than a 10-minute stroll from the welcoming Oak pub and the upmarket Painswick Hotel, so you’re always close to good food and drinks if you don't want to cook. Stroud, the nearest town, is just a short drive away and has everything you need.
Painswick, often called the "Queen of the Cotswolds," is incredibly charming with its stone cottages and narrow streets. Walk along New Street to medieval St. Mary's Church with its famous yew tree avenues – it's pretty Instagrammable and a lovely spot to sit and contemplate. If you’re into walking, you’ll love the trails around here, especially the Cotswold Way. The Gateway Towns routes are waymarked for ramblers and cyclists, so stretch your legs on the three-mile circular walk via Painswick Stream or the four-mile loop through Frith Wood. The Painswick Rococo Garden is worth a visit, especially in spring when the flowers are at their most glorious. For some amazing views, head up to Painswick Beacon. It’s a great spot for a hike or a picnic, and you’ll get some awesome views.
When you want to explore more, the wider area has loads to offer. The historic city of Gloucester is nearby, and its cathedral is stunning. Cheltenham has chic boutiques, and history buffs will enjoy the Roman remains in Cotswold, and the stunning Sudeley Castle, which is close by too. The Cotswolds are full of cute villages and historic spots, perfect for a day of exploring. If you’re into delicious food, culture, outdoor adventures, or just relaxing, Stable Cottage in Painswick does not disappoint.
