Stevenstone Park is a former manor located in the parish of St Giles in the Wood. It was originally home to one of the wealthiest and most influential families in Devon and was occupied from 1524 to 1907. The grounds here are stunning and make for a great day out, especially when the weather is good.
With breathtaking views over the River Torridge and plenty of shops and eateries amongst the streets, this authentic Devon market town has plenty to do.
The market square in Great Torrington was originally a Victorian Pannier Market that has been refurbished. Here you will find great little retail shops, local stalls and fresh produce on sale.
Great Torrington also boasts amazing hiking trails, the most famous of which is the Tarka Trail which is an impressive 180 miles long. The walk starts at the former Southern Railways station in Great Torrington, from which you can either choose the route to Bideford or follow the railway line south and walk beside the old track. This is a great way to explore Torrington and offers plenty of opportunities to experience the railway lines alongside some stunning scenery.
From May until September, Great Torrington experiences pleasant temperatures with much less rainfall than the other months of the year. The summer season is great if you plan to be out and about as the weather is consistent and remains comfortable.
If you are hoping for a hotter break to Great Torrington, it is warmest in July. Bear in mind however that England is notorious for its unexpected weather, but as long as the forecast behaves, you should be able to enjoy a warmer trip in the summer months.
