About Castlebury Barn

Castlebury Barn is a gorgeous barn conversion in a stunning location. It features all the luxuries you could wish for in a modern holiday home, from ensuite bedrooms to comfortable furnishings, a cosy log burner, and an outdoor wood-fired hot tub with incredible views. The two-bedroom property is on the edge of the East Devon village of Membury in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, just a few miles from the Dorset border. There are lots of opportunities for walking and cycling from the door and the UNESCO Jurassic Coast is within an easy drive. The cottage sleeps four people in two ensuite bedrooms, with a flexible layout that suits couples, families or friends. There's also a sofa bed in the living room to accommodate a further one or two guests if required.

Membury is the place to stay when you want to escape the noise and bustle of the daily grind. It's an idyllic spot in the Blackdown Hills, and many visitors make the most of having this pristine, unspoiled landscape for walking and cycling. Climb National Trust Golden Cap for breathtaking panoramic views or, closer to home, the ancient hillfort site of Membury Castle. Alternatively, go south to the South West Coast Path. Even sitting in the garden and birdwatching with the binoculars thoughtfully provided by the owner is a pleasure. The Jurassic Coast is only 20 minutes from Castlebury Barn, putting seaside towns like Lyme Regis, Charmouth, and Seaton within easy reach whether you want to spend a day at the beach paddle boarding, kayaking and fossil hunting, or simply or to pop out for lunch or a drink with a view.

Local attractions include Pecorama, a family-friendly venue with trains, gardens, play areas, picnic spots, and a cafe. The Donkey Sanctuary in Sidmouth is a year-round favourite (with the benefit of free entry), or see the meerkats, otters and other residents of the Axe Valley Wildlife Park. Foodies can take a cookery course at the Riverford Canteen and Cookery School and tour the Lyme Bay Winery. The cathedral city of Exeter is around 45-minutes by car, while Taunton is even closer. There's a huge choice of places to eat, drink, and shop, whether you love to browse the markets or want the convenience of having your groceries delivered to the door.

Castlebury Barn is an oasis where you can unwind and relax with your family and friends. Bookings are available all year round, with short breaks possible depending on availability.

Accommodation Comprises:

Castlebury Barn has been renovated to a very high standard with all accommodation on one level. It's a stylish mix of natural textures, modern finishes, and classic furnishings that come together into a wonderfully welcoming place in all seasons.

  • Light-filled living room with hardwood flooring and glazed bi-fold doors that open onto the patio and frame sensational views over the Yarty Valley. Throw them open to allow the fresh summer breeze to circulate in warm weather, or seal them against the weather and light the log burner to snuggle down in winter. With a rich velvet love seat, an armchair, and two sofas, one of which opens into a double bed, there is ample seating for everyone to watch TV or sit around and chat. A large dining table in the corner seats six guests with a mix of chairs and banquettes.
  • Fitted kitchen with all mod-cons to make feeding a hungry household a breeze. As with the rest of the living areas, the views from the kitchen are wonderfully distracting, overlooking rolling fields grazed by sheep.
  • Utility and cloakroom with a WC, handbasin, and laundry facilities.
  • Bedroom One has a kingsize bed with a high-quality sprung mattresses and luxurious cotton bedding. Glass doors open onto a private patio with a table and chairs for drinking your morning coffee in the sunshine. The ensuite meets the exceptional standards throughout the rest of the cottage, with a deep bath, walk in shower, WC and a handbasin.
  • Bedroom Two has zip and link beds that can be set up either as a superking (6ft-wide) bed or two full-sized single beds with the same high-quality mattress and bedding as the other room. The designer ensuite has a deep bath, big walk in shower, WC and a handbasin.

Outside: The outdoor space has been skilfully landscaped to be as usable as the interior living area. It's a place you'll love to relax whether in the wood-fired hot tub or lingering over relaxed alfresco meals. The garden is child and pet friendly, with panoramic views over the Yarty Valley. There is an allocated parking area with an EV charging point.

Additional Information: Utilities, WiFi, bed linen and bath towels are included. The cottage is dog-friendly with well-behaved dogs welcome by arrangement. Guests to provide dog and beach towels if they are required. Short breaks are possible outside of peak season, depending on availability. Smoking is not permitted.
