Ellen Hall was once a working farm but today it is home to seven beautiful romantic retreats nestling in a tranquil vale close to the river Ellen in Cumbria. Positioned in a quiet spot within easy reach of the Northern Lakes, the cottages are available for short breaks or longer lets and provide a stress-free getaway for busy couples - a peaceful haven for those who appreciate a slower pace of life!
Sit back and enjoy the birdsong and soothing sounds of water from the brook that runs through the garden whilst soaking up the wonderful atmosphere, or enjoy a bubble in the hydro therapy hot tub which seats six - the perfect place to relax after a day's walking or sight-seeing.
The peaceful Ellen Vale sits between Cockermouth and the Solway Coast and provides a network of bridle paths and tracks to explore leading straight from the front door. You are also welcome to bring your dog away with you to enjoy the beautiful surroundings and wonderful walks.
For those wanting to explore the many attractions in the area, the bustling market town of Cockermouth and birthplace of William Wordsworth is just a few miles away and the 'Gateway to the North Lakes', Keswick, is less than half an hour by car - a lovely drive along Bassenthwaite Lake. The Keswick area offers a host to outdoor activities and pursuit centres, along with a marina, excellent restaurants and its very own “Theatre by the Lake”. The beautiful Cumbrian heritage coastline is less than three miles from Ellen Hall and for those happy to travel further afield, Carlisle, Hadrian’s Wall and the Scottish Borders are all within easy reach and provide great days out.
Cumbria is a wonderful place to visit at any time of year and a holiday at Ellen Hall will allow you to explore not only the Lake District National Park but also Cumbria's beautiful coastline. Ellen Hall provides a choice of seven beautifully presented romantic holiday cottages, each one individual and tailor-made for two. Some have galleried mezzanine areas with four-poster beds and all have: fully equipped kitchens with oven/hob, microwave and fridge; comfortable sitting rooms with log burner or open fire, television and DVD player; bathrooms which also include a power shower; garden areas with patio furniture and BBQ and the shared use of a laundry room with washing machine and tumble dryer.
The cottages are perfect for celebrating a special occasion and romantic treats (flowers, champagne, fruit basket or your favourite chocolates) can be arrange for your arrival.
Guests can also hire the hot tub for private use - great for unwinding at the end of the day where you can enjoy relaxing with your partner in the atmospheric setting. There is a changing room at the back of the log cabin which overlooks the beck which runs through the grounds and don't forget to bring your swimming costumes and towels if you would like to book the hot tub.
Parlour Cottage is featured within this advert and offers 'upside down' living with the bedroom (plus en-suite) on the ground floor and the living space on the first floor. By clever design, the cottage has large French doors that let lots of natural light flood in and provide access out onto the veranda where you can sit out and enjoy a glass of something cold of an evening or your morning coffee (a bistro table and chairs are provided).

Additional information: Unfortunately children and babies cannot be accommodated. One well behaved dog at no extra charge by prior arrangement (a second dog is at the owner's discretion). Prices include bed linen and storage heating. There is a £1 coin meter which covers cooking, lighting and hot water.
