Cockley Beck Cottage is a stone-built holiday cottage in the Duddon Valley, sleeping two guests in one all ground-floor cottage and set within the Lake District National Park. Attached to the farmhouse yet entirely self-contained, it sits in an isolated position between Hardknott and Wrynose Pass, surrounded by open fell, grazing livestock and the sound of the River Duddon nearby. Inside, the cottage is warm and straightforward: an open-plan living space with a wood-burning stove, a well-equipped kitchen with dishwasher and washing machine, and a double bedroom served by a bathroom with bath and shower overhead. Outside, there's an orchard garden and patio with open views across the valley. This is a practical base for walkers & cyclists who like to head straight from the door.
The nearest village is Seathwaite, 4.3 miles down the Duddon Valley, home to a traditional country inn serving food and local ales. For shops, cafés and everyday essentials, Broughton-in-Furness is 11.1 miles away, centred around its cobbled square lined with independent businesses and Georgian buildings. It’s the sort of place where you can stock up properly before retreating back into the valley. Coniston and Ulverston are also within reach for a wider choice of places to eat, while Foxfield station connects to the scenic Cumbrian Coast line if you fancy leaving the car behind for a day.
From the cottage door, footpaths lead directly towards Harter Fell and Grey Friar, with the Scafell massif forming a dramatic backdrop to the valley. Hardknott Pass provides one of the most striking drives in the Lake District, dropping into Eskdale where you’ll find the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway, Muncaster Castle and access to Wast Water. This is a quieter corner of the national park, favoured by experienced walkers and those who prefer space over crowds. Evenings tend to be about simple comforts — a stove lit, boots drying by the door, and clear skies overhead. As a holiday cottage in the Lake District for two, Cockley Beck Cottage suits guests who come for the stunning landscape.
