The best way to enjoy the magnificent vistas of the Lake District is on your own two feet. Whether you love challenging hill walks or prefer gentle lakeside strolls, you will be spoilt for choice with the huge number of romantic walks to explore. Adventurous couples should climb the three Langdale peaks. Don’t forget to have a refreshing dip in the mountain lake at the top of Stickle Tarn! For those looking for something a bit less strenuous, be wowed by the glorious views of Lake Windermere and the surrounding hills at the summit of Orrest Head. Alternatively, near Ullswater, the power and beauty of Aira Force waterfall cannot fail to take your breath away. It’s an easy stroll through the woods from Glenridding or you can amble on further to High Force or Gowbarrow fell. Keep your eye open for red squirrels and pretty picnic spots along the way. If you would rather walk around the lake, or take a cruise, you can combine a section of the lakeside walking route with a boat trip.
If you are looking for an ideal spot to while away the afternoon whilst you soak up these stunning views head to the end of Friar’s Crag on the pretty lake at Derwentwater. Be mesmerised by the boats bobbing about on the water, or better still, cuddle under a cosy blanket and gaze at the stars once the sun has gone down. The perfect romantic spot for anyone thinking of popping the question! Or equally as magical, head a couple of miles east to Castlerigg Stone Circle. With panoramic views of the mountains these mystical stones, dating back to 3000 BC, are incredibly atmospheric. If you can tear yourselves out of bed and get there for sun rise you will be rewarded with a truly memorable experience.
If you really want to get away from it all, the peaceful lake at Loweswater is a beautiful secluded spot for a tranquil lakeside walk. For the ultimate romantic afternoon, why not escape the shores and hire your own rowing boat. Or if you are looking to pull out all the stops and view the Lake District from a completely different angle, take to the skies in a hot air balloon. It’s hard to get more romantic than sipping champagne as you glide above the hills watching the sun set.
As stunning as they are, there is more to the Lake District than mountains and lakes. Beach lovers can enjoy a blast of sea air at the coastal village of Ravenglass. From here you can also hop onto a miniature steam train or visit the fairytale Muncaster Castle.
After a day out exploring, either indulge in a meal in one of the divine restaurants or hide away in one of our romantic cottages in the Lake District. Stay in a luxury retreat by the water, hide away in the hills, hunker down with your loved one next to a roaring fire or enjoy a glass of fizz whilst watching the sun set from a hot tub. Be impulsive and book a last minute break or plan ahead for a special occasion. Either way, it’s time to pack your bags and fall in love with this wild and evocative landscape.
