About The Cottage

The Cottage is a beautiful retreat for up to four adults and two dogs. Set in the Derbyshire Dales village of Hulland Ward, the holiday cottage is in the perfect location for walking, cycling and sightseeing. There are two pubs (the Nag's Head and the Black Horse Inn) within walking distance, with more amenities in the surrounding towns and villages. The Cottage has one double and one king-sized bedroom, which can also be configured as a twin, and two bathrooms, so it suits friends and couples.

Hulland Ward is conveniently located between Ashbourne and Duffield. It's a lovely spot with beautiful views and stunning sunsets. Enjoy the ten acre dog walk around the site or explore the network of footpaths leading to Hulland Moss, Millington Green, and Biggin by Hulland. Carsington Water, with plentiful opportunities for walking, birdwatching, fishing, SUPing, and sailing, is only four miles away. The southern Peak District National Park is also within a short drive or a scenic bike ride. The traffic-free Tissington Trail is nearby in Ashbourne, with bike hire available for those who need it.

Local attractions include stately homes like Kedleston Hall, Sudbury and the spectacular Chatsworth House. The Crich Tramway Museum is always a good day out, while motoring and train enthusiasts can visit the Ambergate Car Museum and Ecclesbourne Valley Railway. Alton Towers is just over half an hour's drive, while you can reach the Stoke Potteries in under an hour.

The nearest town is Ashbourne, six miles from The Cottage. It's a picturesque blend of Tudor and Georgian buildings - over 200 of them listed - lining cobbled streets. You'll find all of the amenities you need for a self-catering holiday in the Peak District, including independent shops, pubs and restaurants. Don't miss a taste of original Ashbourne Gingerbread from the bakery on St John's Street and the pleasure of browsing the stalls at the regular Thursday market. Other places to see are Matlock, Belper, Bakewell and Hartington. Further afield, Dovedale, Milldale and the Ilam Valley have lots to tempt visitors for days out.

The Cottage is welcoming in all seasons, and holidays are available to book all year round. If you would like to holiday with additional friends and family, the owner also runs a small adult only campsite for five touring vans and with three glamping pods.

The Cottage is a traditional brick holiday home with a private enclosed garden and accommodation over two levels.

Downstairs:

  • Tranquil living room with a log burner in the fireplace, a leather sofa and two armchairs, and a Smart TV with a DVD player.
  • Charming kitchen/diner well-equipped for self-catering with a dishwasher and a washing machine. The pine table comfortably seats four people.
  • Double bedroom with a kingsize zip-link bed that can be configured as two single beds. Please let the owner know your preferred layout when booking.
  • Modern shower room with a spacious shower, heated towel rail, WC and a handbasin.

Upstairs:

  • Triple aspect windows in the upstairs bedroom afford beautiful views from the moment you wake up. It has a double bed, proper storage, and a TV.
  • Ensuite bathroom with a bath, heated towel rail, WC and a handbasin.

Outside: Enclosed gardens feature a lawn and a patio area with seating, a chiminea and a barbecue. There is off-street parking.

Additional Information: Utilities, WiFi, bed linen and towels are included. Well-behaved dogs are welcome by arrangement. The Cottage accommodates adults only. Short breaks are possible, depending on availability. It is a non-smoking property.
