Eight The Green has witnessed the activities of Middleton by Wirksworth for the last two hundred years. Sitting quietly opposite the village green, this gorgeous stone holiday cottage offers a peaceful escape where couples or individuals can retreat to the beauty of rural Derbyshire and the magnificent Peak District. You're a stone's throw from the National Park, within easy reach of Matlock, and, very important for a relaxed self-catering holiday, only a few minutes' stroll from two pubs, The Rising Sun and The Nelson Arms, if you want to socialise with the locals.
Derbyshire and the Peak District are splendid in all seasons. If your heart sings at the sight of a sensational view, with plenty of colour and interest, you'll love it here! Middleton's elevation is over 1,000 feet which means incredible views from places like Middleton Moor, where you can see Bolehill, Riber Castle, Alport Height, and Crich Stand. Many of the properties, including Eight The Green, were built to house workers in the local lead mines and limestone quarries. The limestone from this region is still highly coveted, and you can learn more about the history of this industry in the National Stone Centre just outside Middleton. Ten minutes’ walk across the moor is the High Peak Trail and Middleton Top Visitor Centre, where you can hire bicycles. Stay on the High Peak Trail to explore the Tissington Trail, White Peak Loop, Limestone Way, and the Pennine Bridleway.
You'll find many ways to have fun when you stay at Eight The Green. Go walking, cycling, mountain biking, and horse riding on your own or as part of a guided group. You're only a few miles from Matlock's shops and restaurants. Treat yourself to a swimming session at the thermal pool in Matlock Bath, or spend a pleasurable few hours exploring the waterfalls and the historic mill ruins in Lumsdale. Chatsworth House is just over 20 minutes north of the cottage, while Alton Towers is half an hour south. Rail enthusiasts will love a day out at Steeple Grange Light Railway or Ecclesbourne Valley Railway, whilst the Crich Tramway Museum offers a fascinating display of bygone-era transport. Buxton, Bakewell, Dovedale, and the plague village of Eyam are also within 30 minutes of Eight The Green.
