The cottage is ideal for walkers, cyclists and anyone wanting a relaxed, comfortable base in the Derbyshire Dales and Peak District. From the moment you arrive, the setting feels calm and timeless: stone cottages clustered around the green, views across the Ecclesbourne Valley, and footpaths leading out in every direction.
Derbyshire is spectacular in every season, and Eight The Green puts you right at the centre of it. Wander up to Middleton Moor for sweeping views to Bolehill, Riber Castle and Crich Stand, or join the nearby High Peak Trail for traffic‑free cycling and long, open‑country walks. The National Stone Centre, Middleton Top Visitor Centre, the Tissington Trail and the White Peak Loop are all close by, with bike hire available locally.
The surrounding area is rich in history and heritage. Explore Cromford Mills in the Derwent Valley, a cornerstone of the Industrial Revolution, or take a trip on the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway or Steeple Grange Light Railway. Matlock and Wirksworth are only a few miles away for shops, cafés and restaurants, while the waterfalls and mill ruins of Lumsdale make for a memorable afternoon walk. Eight The Green is a charming 200‑year‑old stone cottage full of character, with accommodation arranged over two levels.
Downstairs
An enclosed entrance porch provides space for coats and shoes, leading into the living room and kitchen.
If it’s chilly outside, put the kettle on and light the log burner before settling into the cosy warmth and that wonderful feeling of being away with no timetable. The living room includes a sofa, armchair, footstool, dining table and a Smart TV with Roku Streambar for relaxed evenings in.
The kitchen has a stylish country feel with oak worktops and everything you need for a self‑catering stay, including an induction hob, electric fan oven, microwave, fridge, freezer and integrated washing machine. A few essentials and a thoughtful welcome pack are provided to get you started.
Upstairs
The bedroom features a king‑size bed with a hybrid mattress and two windows overlooking the village, with views towards Black Rocks, Bolehill and Alport Heights — perfect morning inspiration when you open the curtains. There’s plenty of practical storage too, with a hanging rail, chest of drawers and bedside shelves.
The bathroom has a full‑size bath with a thermostatic shower overhead. Underfloor heating keeps it warm and comfortable, even on colder mornings.
Outside
A sunny bench in the front garden overlooks the village green, while the enclosed rear courtyard is ideal for al fresco dining. A lockable outhouse provides secure bike storage. Free parking is available on The Green, with an additional free public car park next to The Nelson Arms.
Additional Information
Utilities, fast fibre broadband/WiFi, bed linen and bath towels are all included. The property is for adults only — no children or pets. Please note: while headroom is generous in all rooms, the stairway and upstairs corridor feature some low ceilings. The carpeted stairs are fairly steep but have a secure handrail.
