Eight The Green has witnessed village life in Middleton by Wirksworth for over two centuries. Sitting quietly opposite the village green, this gorgeous stone holiday cottage offers a peaceful escape where couples or solo travellers can retreat to the beauty of rural Derbyshire and the magnificent Peak District. You're a stone's throw from the National Park, within easy reach of Matlock, and, crucially for a relaxed self-catering break, just a few minutes' stroll from two welcoming pubs, The Nelson Arms and The Rising Sun.
Derbyshire and the Peak District are splendid in all seasons. If your heart sings at the sight of a sweeping view rich in colour and interest, you'll love it here. At over 1,000 feet, Middleton enjoys spectacular vantage points like Middleton Moor, with views across Bolehill, Riber Castle, Alport Height, and Crich Stand. Many local buildings, including Eight The Green, were originally built for workers in the lead mines and limestone quarries. Limestone from the region is still prized today, and you can discover more at the nearby National Stone Centre. Just ten minutes' walk across the moor brings you to the High Peak Trail and Middleton Top Visitor Centre, where you can hire bikes and set off to explore the Tissington Trail, White Peak Loop, Limestone Way, or the Cromford Canal.
There are plenty of ways to enjoy your time at Eight The Green. Head out on foot or by bike from the doorstep, hop on the local bus for a scenic linear walk, or try watersports at nearby Carsington Water. You’re only a few miles from the shops and restaurants of Wirksworth and Matlock, or take a trip to Cromford Mills in the Derwent Valley, a cornerstone of the Industrial Revolution. Enjoy a swim in the geothermal pool at Matlock Bath, or explore the waterfalls and mill ruins in atmospheric Lumsdale. Chatsworth House is just over 20 minutes north, while Alton Towers is around half an hour south. Rail enthusiasts will love the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway and Steeple Grange Light Railway, while the Crich Tramway Museum offers a fascinating glimpse into bygone-era transport. Bakewell, Dovedale, Buxton, and the plague village of Eyam are also all within 30 minutes of the cottage.

Outside: A sunny bench in the front garden overlooks the village green, while the enclosed rear courtyard is ideal for al fresco dining. A lockable outhouse provides secure bike storage. Free parking is available on The Green, with an additional free public car park next to The Nelson Arms.
Additional Information: Utilities, fast fibre broadband/WiFi, bed linen, and bath towels are all included. The property is for adults only - no children or pets. Please note: while headroom is generous in all rooms, the stairway and upstairs corridors do feature some low ceilings. The carpeted stairs are fairly steep but have a secure handrail.
