Location (Cornwall)

Information about the area:

There is a good variety of shops, cafes and amenities close by. The beach is popular with families for its soft sand (perfect for sandcastles!) and clean water. It has a relaxed, friendly atmosphere and does not attract the summer crowds of some Cornish beaches.

Portreath is an historic village with World Heritage Status on the west coast of Cornwall. The coast to coast cycle path start here (Portreath to Devoran) and Garden Springs is between the St Agnes Hertigate Coast and St Ives. The South West Coast Path links stunning views and beautiful areas, with the stretch from Portreath to Gordreavy being especially lovely as it passes through the Godreavy Heritage Coast and rewards the effort with views of seals, basking sharks, the Godreavy Lighthouse and over St Ives Bay. Head inland, and Redruth is just a few miles away. The historic mining town has always had close links to Portreath, as the tin from the former was shipped from the harbour of the latter. You can see the legacy of the successful industry in the Victorian beauty of the town’s architecture.

In addition to the world-famous beaches of Cornwall, nearby attractions include Heartlands (a free, fun family day out), the Tate Modern and other galleries in St Ives, the Tehidy Country Park (almost on the doorstep), Wheal Peevor and East Pool Mines, the Paradise Park Wildlife Sanctuary, and a range of charming towns and villages. Penzance, Truro and Falmouth are only around half an hour by car and the Eden Project and Lost Gardens of Heligan are just forty minutes, so you can see that Garden Spring at Basset Acre is in a fantastic location for enjoying everything Cornwall has to offer.
