Methven is a Cornish gem. Crafted in the 1850s from local stone and sympathetically refurbished by the current owners, this early Victorian holiday cottage is only 200 level metres from Padstow Harbour, fantastic restaurants (Rick Stein's Cafe and The Golden Lion are within strolling distance), galleries, and shops, and comes with a private south-facing garden and its own parking - practically unheard of in Padstow Old Town! The house sleeps four people in one double and one twin bedroom to provide couples and families with a delightfully comfortable place to stay while enjoying the coast, countryside, and captivating charm of Cornwall and the Camel Estuary.
You will love everything about Padstow. The historic town has everything you could wish for in a holiday destination. The town grew up around the picturesque harbour, which is still a busy fishing port. Needless to say, with the freshest catch of the day coming in daily, Padstow's restaurants serve some of the most delicious seafood in the UK. The harbour is also the place to go for a sightseeing cruise or a fishing trip, to dangle a crab line, or simply sit with a glass of something cold and watch the endless activity on the water. Padstow's coastline is a scenic mix of sheltered coves and wide sandy beaches. The closest beach to Padstow Harbour is Tregirls Beach, but you are also close to St George's Cove, Hawkers Cove, and Harbour Cove.
Favourite activities include taking the ferry across the River Camel to Rock, spending a few hours spotting wildlife on a Sealife Safari, and admiring the spectacular views from the South West Coast Path. Prideaux Place, a beautiful Elizabethan house with a deer park and tea rooms, is less than a ten-minute walk from Methven, as is the National Lobster Hatchery. Nearby, the all-weather Camel Creek Adventure Park is a good choice for the kids, while hiring bikes and hitting the traffic-free Camel Trail is great for all ages.
