Redtiles is a beautiful self-catering cottage in the Vale of Evesham, tucked away in a peaceful and picturesque location just outside of Bretforton and close to the Cotswolds. The cottage is perfect for couples as it offers privacy and solitude yet is within walking distance of the medieval Fleece Inn which is owned by the National Trust and at the heart of this friendly community.
It is not possible to imagine a better location for a relaxing holiday whether you visit for the sights of pretty thatched cottages and stone buildings in a soft honey-hue, the opportunity to walk through some of England’s loveliest countryside, or the chance to eat delicious local food in a friendly setting. Bretforton wears its age with pride, relishing in its traditions that have remained relevant over the centuries and which tie the community together. The fertile soil and suitable climate have given Bretforton the deserved reputation of growing some of the tastiest produce in the region, and you can stock up at the village shop that is owned and run by the community.
The market town of Evesham is only a few miles from Redtiles, with a wide array of independent shops, pubs and cafes, as well as a thriving market that runs every Tuesday and Saturday from 9am until 3pm. The town sits on the banks of the River Avon, and a walk along the river is a lovely way to spend a relaxing hour, as is a stroll around Evesham Country Park. Historians can walk along the Battle Trail, which takes in some of the critical locations of the battle which took place on 4th August 1265.
Some of the best views in the Vale of Evesham are only accessible on foot. The Blossom Trail stretches for 45 beautiful miles around the Vale of Evesham, taking in the breathtaking sight of fruit trees in full bloom every spring. If you visit in winter, then pull on your wellies and walk around the Lenches. It forms part of the Blossom Trail and is very popular on a sunny spring weekend, when winter’s lack of leaves and flowers reveals far-reaching views that will take your breath away. The Cotswolds are only a stone’s throw away where, in addition to the Cotswold Way footpath, there is a wealth of beautiful walks through villages and across the countryside, or jump on your bike so you can explore even further afield.
Stow-on-the-Wold, Bourton-on-the-Water and Moreton-in-Marsh are three well-known Cotswold towns within easy reach of Redtiles, as are Broadway and Chipping Campden. Each place offers visitors something different, from postcard-perfect views to independent shops, and pubs and restaurants that will provide a gastro delight. Cheltenham’s elegant shops and famous racecourse provide an exciting day out, while Stratford-Upon-Avon is close enough that you can get there early to explore at your leisure before the day-trippers descend. Snowshill Manor and Hidcote Gardens are just two of the many fantastic nearby properties the National Trust manage, and you could easily stay in Redtiles for weeks and enjoy doing something different every day.
The owners of Redtiles have created a welcoming holiday home that is furnished to a high standard yet relaxed and unfussy. It is a place where you can forget about work, traffic and life’s other stresses and spend time with your favourite person.
