About Bread Cottage

Bread Cottage, located on the edge of Minchinhampton Common, is the perfect rural retreat for a couple looking to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Originally housing the bread ovens, this quirky stone holiday cottage has been tastefully renovated to provide characterful self-catering holiday accommodation with a contemporary twist. The large windows, fantastic views, modern kitchen and wood burning stove all make Bread Cottage a cosy and comfortable place to stay, but the open plan spiral glass staircase is what will truly take your breath away. The downstairs double bedroom with underfloor heating makes it a perfect bolthole for two, but two extra adults, or children over fourteen, can also sleep in the mezzanine area upstairs.

Step outside the front door and enjoy an evening Pimms on the suntrap patio or explore the acres of meadows and wild flowers on your doorstep on the Common. Whilst the land is owned by the National Trust, local farmers graze their cows and horses here between May and November. Keen golfers can enjoy a round of golf at Minchinhampton Golf Club or you can simply enjoy the beautiful wide open spaces followed by an ice cream from the infamous Winstone’s Cotswold Ice Cream. Those looking for something more savoury can enjoy a leisurely lunch or dinner at either The Black Horse or the Amberley Inn, both walking distance from Bread Cottage. We are proud of our new community shop and café situated in the local church.

If you are looking to stretch your legs further afield there are numerous footpaths and bridleways to explore. Enjoy a walk along Stroudwater Canal, tackle part of the Cotswold Way footpath, or simply enjoy meandering through the beautiful countryside and picturesque Cotswold villages. Just a couple of miles away, the small town of Nailsworth is perfect for browsing shops or sampling more cafes and restaurants. Williams, the award-winning seafood restaurant, delicatessen and fishmonger is a must for any seafood lovers. Alternatively, head three miles north to Stroud where you will find a fantastic farmers’ market as well as an array of shops and eateries.

If you are looking for a day out, the National Trust’s Woodchester Mansion and Park is only five miles away, or head slightly further afield to Westonbirt Arboretum, Slimbridge Wetlands Centre, Cotswold Water Park, Berkeley Castle or the Cotswold Farm Park. Oxford, Bath, Bristol, Cheltenham and Cirencester are also all less than an hour away so you can enjoy the bright lights of these vibrant towns and cities before returning to the tranquillity of your Cotswold holiday cottage.

If you are looking to holiday with family or friends, you can also rent Bakehouse Cottage next door which sleeps four, plus one dog. Both properties have been renovated to a high standard and enjoy far reaching Gloucestershire countryside views.
