The village of Sherston offers a good range of amenities within walking distance of Lantern House including two very good pubs for a meal out, a grocery store/Post Office for stocking up on provisions (including a good range of produce from local suppliers), a wine merchants and a superb farm shop for meat, freshly baked bread and vegetables. For the little ones, there is also a playground and field where they can let off steam.

Nestling on the southern side of the Cotswolds, Sherston village is well placed for exploring the many attractions of the area and is only ninety minutes by car or train to London. The beautiful National Trust village of Lacock is within easy reach and popular with 'setjetters' being used as the filmset for movies such as Pride and Prejudice and Hogwarts in two of the Harry Potter films. For those who like walking in the footsteps of the famous, Castle Coombe is another 'must visit' destination and a picturesque village which was used in the filming of War Horse and Dr Dolittle. Tetbury is a thriving market town with an excellent range of shops, restaurants and pubs. It attracts antique hunters from around the world, is home to Highgrove (the residence of Prince Charles), and is an architectural treasure with its magnificent market hall and the Elizabethan gem of Chavenage House (used in the filming of Poldark). For garden enthusiasts, Westonbirt National Arboretum is closeby (a short drive through the country lanes from Lantern House) and a must with one of the most impressive collections of trees worldwide (magnificent in the Autumn and Spring).

For those happy to travel a little further, the Roman City of Bath is just thirty minutes away by car to the South, as is the city of Bristol; or Head North and explore the beautiful Cotswolds countryside; historic towns such as Cirencester, Cheltenham, Stow-on-the-Wold and Gloucester and also picturesque villages including Bibury, Bourton-on-the-Water, Chipping Campden, Burford and Broadway.
