Sansome House Cottage is an idyllic retreat in the Cotswolds. It is ideally placed in the charming village of Ilmington and within walking distance of the friendly well stocked village shop, cafe and the Red Lion and Howard Arms pubs, both of which are traditional pubs with a warm welcome for visitors and locals alike. The cottage is the perfect place for a romantic couple's getaway, with its log fireplace and cottage garden. With two bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a generously sized living space, it is also ideal for families or friends.
Ilmington is a picturesque village with a small but friendly community and a location that is convenient for exploring both the Cotswolds and the Heart of England. In addition to enjoying walking and cycling through the undulating Ilmington Downs, Campden Hill is only a mile away offering panoramic views across the Cotswold Hills. Unlike some of the better-known towns and villages in the Cotswolds, Ilmington is off the tourist trail and never inundated with coach loads of day-trippers. It's a bit of a well-kept secret with the Ilmington Downs boasting the highest point in the county with amazing views that encompass the Gloucestershire Cotswolds, the blue of the Malvern Hills in Worcestershire as well as Warwickshire and Oxfordshire countryside towards the battle field of Edge Hill, Stratford upon Avon and Brailes Hill.
The Cotswolds are a fantastic year-round holiday destination. Its beauty lives up to the hype, and first-time visitors are often left speechless as they are confronted with one glorious view after another. Warm, honey-coloured stone buildings look as pretty in the bright summer sunshine as against autumn leaves and winter mists, and even a simple stroll to the village shop for fresh milk is a delight. Places to see include Chipping Campden, Broadway, Moreton in Marsh and Stow on the Wold, all of which have an excellent variety of independent shops, cafes and pubs as well as regular markets and other fun events. The spires of Oxford and Woodstock with the opulence of Blenheim Palace are also within reach for a day out, while Stratford-Upon-Avon is about a 15-minute drive away and Warwick Castle is also an easy drive.
The popularity of the Cotswolds ensures that there is always something on whether it's a literary festival, Christmas fayre or summer fete. The owners of Sansome House Cottage have provided a selection of maps, cycle routes, walking plans and information about the local area in the cottage to help guests make the most of their stay.
