The Orangery is a truly exceptional holiday cottage, which provides couples with the rare opportunity of staying in a romantic and historic cottage. It affords its own large private, south facing walled garden with flower beds and expansive lawns. The wooded banks are smothered in snowdrops in the Spring, and lead down to Marske Beck which runs into the River Swale nearby. Fishing permits are easily available for the nearby Swale.
The Orangery is a Grade II listed building dating back to the late 1700’s. With the original five sided orangery being flooded with light, from three huge arched windows, opening directly onto the patio and walled garden, it provides the perfect setting for the living room. The original potting sheds, which are tiered down the gentle slope of the garden, form the kitchen, dining room, king sized bedroom (with walk-in dressing room) and luxurious bathroom.
The hamlet of Clints is an ancient manor, apparently dating back to the late 1100’s. Today it consists of the original buildings associated with the long demolished Clints Hall, including The Orangery and The Coach House. The hamlet lies in a beautiful wooded limestone valley carved by the river in the bottom, with outstanding views to the moorlands above. It is a stunning area to explore either by car or on foot and Wainwrights Coast to Coast Walk runs nearby.
The Orangery is approximately half a mile along a private, unmetalled, country track from the village of Marske. The track continues as a footpath beyond Clints and was once an ancient route between Richmond and Reeth, and later used to service the lead mining in the area. It is therefore very quiet, with virtually no passing traffic, other than walkers exploring the area. Whilst this is a beautiful rural setting, in a magical position within the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, it is only six miles from the market town of Richmond with its castle. Reeth with its airy village green is just over four miles, and the A1 is only twelve miles away.
The Orangery has been artistically and beautifully decorated, and with original artwork throughout, this charming, unique holiday cottage provides a rare treat for a truly memorable holiday.

Large quarry tiled entrance hall with an antique mirror and table, along with space to sit and put on your walking boots plus plenty of hanging and storage space for outdoor clothing.
Off the hall is the kitchen with country house kitchen style antique pine dresser, dishwasher, washer/drier, microwave, electric cooker with ceramic hob and twin fan ovens, toaster, fridge/freezer and cafetiere.
A couple of steps lead up into the dining area with its raised wooden floor and then a doorway in the corner of the room leads through into...
Magnificent orangery, which is now the living room with two comfy sofas, antique dresser, large flat screen television with Sky, DVD player and recorder, radio/cassette/CD player and a very realistic Gas fire. This room is light and airy with lovely high ceilings and floor to ceiling arched windows. There is also a French door leading directly onto the patio and fabulous walled garden. The magnificent drapes for the windows provide privacy and mean that you can still be cosy once they are drawn.
Luxurious bathroom off the hallway with a double ended bath, separate shower, underfloor heating and Travertine marble tiles.
Large king size bedroom with fabulous French antique style bed and furniture. This room affords lovely views from the window into the wood and beyond to the moors. There is also a walk in dressing room, providing guests with ample hanging and shelf space.
Outside: The Orangery has level parking for two cars at the side of the lane, which is behind the cottage, or there is ample room to park on the driveway just outside the front door. There are gardens virtually all of the way round, with the main garden being the original walled garden, which is about an acre. There are patio areas, flower borders, walkways and a large lawned area. There is also access through the owners wild flower meadow into a wooded area leading down to Marske Beck at the bottom of the garden (guests are respectfully requested not to use the wild flower meadow, unless for access, as the owner regards it as a nature reserve).
Additional information: Oil central heating throughout and underfloor heating in the bathroom. Bedlinen and teatowels provided. There is storage for bikes. Afternoon tea welcome pack provided upon arrival. Oil, electricity, towels and Gas included in the rental. Sorry no pets or smokers. Wireless broadband supplied by Reeth Rural Radio Net.
Please note: Due to the remote location a terrestrial television signal is not available and the nearby trees can disrupt the satellite television signal so the owners cannot guarantee that you will always have television reception.

What a fabulous cottage ! We thoroughly enjoyed the lounge, in particular that view from those windows is fantastic !
The cottage is really lovely. The setting is breath taking.
