Oughtershaw Hall is simply magnificent. Dating back to the 17th Century, the luxurious country house is in a highly desirable location within the Yorkshire Dales National Park, offering accommodation for 16 guests in eight bedrooms with an indoor pool in a stylish barn conversion, woodlands, and utterly breathtaking views from the self-catering holiday house and the grounds. If your ideal holiday home is a manor house with a view, then you'll love Oughtershaw Hall, where your every comfort has been carefully considered in the choice of furnishings and the quality of the fixtures and fittings. The layout is ideal for multi-generational family gatherings to celebrate special occasions or somewhere you can escape with friends for indulgent days lazing by the pool.
Oughtershaw is a hamlet in the Upper Wharfedale area of the Yorkshire Dales, the tiny cluster of buildings too small to be considered a village and all the more idyllic for its solitude. Constructed as a medieval farmhouse and transformed into an early-Victorian hunting lodge, the property commands panoramic views over woods and moors. Anyone with a glimmer of creativity in their soul will feel inspired and invigorated by the landscape's natural beauty. Being in the geographic heart of the National Park means you're within easy reach of the Dales' best sights and attractions. Wensleydale Creamery and Visitor Centre are eight miles away. It's a great spot to stop and pick up some cheese and picnic fixings on your way to Aysgarth Falls.
Set aside a day to walk from Buckden to Kettlewell. The nine-mile route follows the River Wharfe parallel to Firth Fell, returning via the Dales Way, an 80-mile long-distance footpath between Ilkey to Bowness-on-Windermere. Swaledale is also great for hiking, mountain biking and cycling. Treat yourself to a shopping trip in the market towns of Grassington or Skipton, or go all out in Harrogate. Kendal and Windermere are also close enough for a day out, being just over an hour's drive from Oughtershaw Hall.
Despite its grandeur and pedigree, Oughtershaw Hall is far from stuffy. Instead, the centuries-old walls are wonderfully welcoming, embracing guests with genuine warmth that feels like home.
