About 1 Teesdale Road

1 Teesdale Road has now been awarded Visit England 4 star Gold awards for 2022, 2023 and 2024 ! The house is situated on a quiet road in Barnard Castle with beautiful views of the River Tees and the 12th Century fortress giving the market town its name. It's a short walk across the water from independent shops, bakeries, cafes, restaurants, and friendly pubs like The Old Well. The self-catering holiday cottage sleeps six people in three bedrooms; one loft ensuite and two are ground floor bedrooms with family bathroom. The living space has an open-plan layout that suits friends and families. It's a fantastic place to stay while exploring the countryside, towns and villages of County Durham, putting you within easy reach of the North Pennines and the north of the Yorkshire Dales.

Barnard Castle is traditional but definitely not stuck in the past. As well as its wide range of shops, the town hosts a busy weekly market every Wednesday and a monthly farmers market on the first Saturday of the month. English Heritage expertly cares for the former home of Richard III, which is still impressive despite being a ruin. Egglestone Abbey is another lovely site and a great destination for a walk or a bike ride. There are gorgeous walks from the cottage, along the river and through woodland on the edge of the town making even the simple act of stepping out for a takeaway or some fresh milk a joy. Don't miss the Bowes Museum with its beautiful collections housed in an incredible country house inspired by the grandest chateaus in France.

Things to do during your holiday include walking and cycling around Arkengarthdale and Swaledale, mountain biking in Hamsterley Forest, admiring the might of High Force waterfall, wandering around Auckland Park at Bishop Auckland, and shopping and sightseeing in Durham.
