Dog Friendly Yorkshire Dales

Whether you want a leisurely stroll along the banks of a river or an invigorating hike over wild moorlands, the 840 square miles of walks to explore in the Yorkshire Dales is sure to get those tails wagging! Visit the impressive waterfalls at Aysgarth Falls where you can explore the beautiful woodlands before enjoying a well-earned pint at the dog friendly Wheatsheaf. If you want to tackle a mountain, head to one of the Dales’ famous three peaks. A walk up Ingleborough, the second highest mountain in Yorkshire, takes you through some of the best scenery in the Yorkshire Dales including woods, rivers, rocky peaks and a fascinating natural caving system. The huge stalactites and stalagmites are definitely worth stopping to see and dogs are welcome in the Ingleborough Caves too.

Your four-legged friend might disagree, but going on holiday doesn’t have to be all about beautiful walks! Whilst the cascading waterfalls and majestic peaks will keep you more than entertained, you might also like to explore some of the other gems of the Yorkshire Dales.

The natural playground and dramatic rock formations at Brimham Rocks, near Nidderdale, is a perfect day out to keep the whole family entertained. Have a go at orienteering, pick up an explorer’s pack or unleash your creative skills with some wild art or leaf painting. Or simply stretch your legs as you explore the stunning moorland and find the perfect picnic spot. Combine history and the great outdoors at the 12th century priory at Bolton Abbey. Set within a 30,000 acre estate on the banks of the River Wharfe this is an idyllic spot to go fishing, build a sandcastle on the beach (yes it really does have a pop-up beach with pirate ship!) or embark on one of the adventure trails. On a warm day you can paddle in the river or tackle the 60 stepping stones to cross the water. Dogs will love the 80 miles of footpaths and there are even designated areas for them to run off their leads.

Alternatively, go back in time whilst learning about the fascinating history of Skipton Castle. Dogs are welcome to explore this well-preserved medieval fortress with you and you can take them for a walk afterwards in the beautiful Skipton Castle Woods. Green fingered enthusiasts should head to Parcevall Hall Gardens where you can enjoy 24 acres of enchanting gardens set on a steep hillside allowing you to enjoy the stunning views of the Dales. If you are after something a bit more exotic visit the Himalayan Garden and Sculpture Park. See how many of the 80 contemporary sculptures you can find as you take a gentle stroll with your dog (on-lead) through the 45 acres of stunning gardens and woodland.

The Yorkshire Dales is a beautiful and diverse landscape. Explore the expansive heaths and challenging mountains, meander along the banks of gently flowing rivers, marvel at the unique geological spectacles or discover the fascinating cultural heritage of the charming market towns. However you decide to enjoy this wild and beautiful landscape, our large selection of dog friendly cottages to rent means your four-legged friends can come and enjoy the holiday too!
