Millstone Cottage is a superb holiday cottage in Northumberland. It sleeps six people in three bedrooms with a high standard of accommodation on both levels. Although extremely well-equipped for self-catering, many guests have at least one meal in Lucker's village pub, the Apple Inn, which is next door and serves great food and local ales. The house is great for families, but as all bedrooms have a private ensuite bathroom, it is also a fantastic choice for friends or extended families. There are several equally impressive holiday cottages on the same family-run site with a beauty spa and health club just a short walk away. You can book these together if you need to accommodate groups of family or friends, including if you're hosting a wedding at one of the excellent Northumberland wedding venues.
Lucker is a small rural community three miles from Bamburgh. The location is beautiful in all seasons, being close to the coast and within easy reach of the Northumberland National Park. It's a popular choice for a walking or cycling holiday with routes ranging from rambling clifftop paths to family-friendly trails in Kielder Forest and the challenges of the Cheviot Hills. Fishing and golf are two more favourite ways to experience the spectacular scenery. You aren't limited to the mainland when you stay at Millstone Cottage. Take a wildlife spotting boat tour from Seahouses to Farne Island, or around Lindisfarne. Holy Island is also accessible on foot, bicycle or car via a causeway at low tide.
Despite its tranquil atmosphere, Northumberland has a turbulent history. Places like Bamburgh Castle and Alnwick Castle saw plenty of action in their day, as did Hadrian's Wall. Romans, Saxons and Vikings have all left their mark on the landscape. It's paradise for any lover of history whether ancient or more modern, as seen at National Trust Cragside whose owner was incredibly forward thinking in green energy use, even by today's standards.
If wealth were measured in beauty then Northumberland would be one of the richest places in Britain. It's ideal to escape the daily drudge and spend quality time reconnecting with your favourite people in gorgeous surroundings.
