The Old Workshop is a character self-catering holiday cottage in the Northumberland village of Milfield, within walking distance of a village shop, cafe, and the 18th Century Red Lion pub. It's a walker's paradise, with scenic footpaths in all directions. Once a popular stop-off point for travellers between Edinburgh and London, it's a relaxed community on the edge of the Northumberland National Park, within reach of the spectacular beaches of the Northumberland Coast and walking distance of the Cheviot Hills. The beautifully presented cottage sleeps five people in three bedrooms and is ideal for families who want to explore northeast England and the Scottish borders.
You have an enormous choice of things to do and places to see during your stay at The Old Workshop. Many guests visit for the wealth of footpaths like the six-mile loop from the village and around the base of the Cheviot Hills to Crookhouses. Other local walking destinations include Yeavering Bell, Hethpool Wild Goat, Great Hetha, Doddington Moor, and the College Valley. The Pennine Way and St Cuthbert's Way give more variety. Mountain bikers also love this landscape for its challenging climbs, sweeping downhills and stunning views. Road cycling is popular for the same reason, with local stables allowing guests to swap their saddles and explore by horseback. Anglers can fish in the River Tweed and the River Till or drive to the coast for some beach fishing. There are seven golf courses within half an hour's drive - one for every day of your stay if you're a keen golfer.
Shop in delightful market towns like Wooler and Berwick-upon-Tweed. If you yearn for a more cosmopolitan atmosphere, Edinburgh is only 90 minutes drive from the cottage or a little longer by train from Berwick. In addition to Edinburgh Castle and other sights, historic attractions include Chain Bridge, Flodden Battlefield, Maelmin Trail, and the Ford and Etal Estates. During your stay, other places to visit include Holy Island of Lindisfarne, the Farne Islands, Bamburgh, Seahouses, Alnwick, Dunstaburgh and Chillingham.
The Old Workshop is a wonderful place to stay at any time of the year. The owners offer short breaks outside of peak season, depending on availability.
