Harbourway has been a feature of Craster Harbour for more than 200 years, though we doubt the initial residents would recognise the charming holiday home as their original fisherman's cottage. Fitted and furnished to a luxurious standard, the end-terrace holiday home sleeps eight people in four bedrooms with an enclosed garden and other family-friendly features. As well as the delightful interiors and superb self-catering facilities, the harbour views make the holiday rental a firm favourite with guests who love that it is within minutes of the water, cafe, and The Friendly Fisherman Inn pub and restaurant.
Craster has a timeless appeal. Fishing boats still head out of the harbour, returning with kippers smoked in the traditional way. Seals and seabirds seek sanctuary on the rocks on either side of the sheltered sandy beach, while the views from the Northumberland Coast Path are magnificent. A popular local walk is north to Dunstanburgh Castle, just over a mile from Harbourway. The castle is in ruins, though no less beautiful for it, with panoramic views over Embleton Bay and Dunstanburgh Castle Golf Course.
Northumberland's beaches are some of the most beautiful in Britain. They stretch for miles, backed by dunes and overseen by fortresses like Bamburgh and Dunstanburgh castles. Despite their breathtaking qualities, the beaches are often empty, allowing you to enjoy them in solitude beneath huge skies. Walk for miles, or save your feet and explore on horseback or by bicycle. Drive or walk across the causeway to Lindisfarne, being careful not to get caught by the tide. Bird watchers and those interested in wildlife and landscape photography should take a boat trip around the Farne Islands. If castles are your passion, don't miss the opportunity to see Alnwick Castle, eight miles inland from Craster and home to the Percy family since 1309.
Harbourway is available for holiday bookings in all seasons. The layout works as well for families and multigenerational families as it does for friends. A well-behaved dog is welcome by arrangement, and the house is very child-friendly.
