With a stunning coastline, tranquil National Park and fascinating historical sites it is hard to beat a relaxing break away in Northumberland if you are looking to recharge those batteries. Home to some of England’s most unspoilt beaches there are plenty of opportunities to blow the cobwebs away with fresh salty sea air. Tackling a stretch of the Northumberland coastal path, from Cresswell to Berwick-upon-Tweed, is a great way to appreciate the raw beauty of the landscape. Taking in rocky headlands, vast sandy beaches, impressive castles and pretty coastal villages there are plenty of walks of varying abilities and lengths to choose from. If you are brave enough to embrace the waves Bamborough Beach is a popular spot for surfing and the sheltered Beadnell Bay is a great spot for watersports such as windsurfing, sailing and waterskiing. The Farne Islands, which can be reach by boat from Seahouses is also a popular spot for diving and snorkelling.

The wilderness of the Northumberland National Park makes it a haven for keen walkers. Lace up those boots and enjoy some of the most remote and dramatic hiking in England in the Cheviot Hills, or combine the landscape with some Roman history along Hadian’s Wall. The National Park is also a designated Dark Sky Park making it a fantastic place for stargazing. Walltown Country Park is a great place to enjoy the wonder of the starry night sky, or visit the The Kielder Observatory where you can look for stars, galaxies and planets through a powerful telescope. No trip to Northumberland would be complete without dipping your toe into the rich history which interwoven into the landscape. From the ruins at Dunstanburgh Castle and the impressive castles at Bamburgh and Alnwick to the 2,000 year old Harian’s Wall and the remains of Bronze Age burial sites in the Beamish Valley you can’t fail to explore Northumberland without discovering it’s fascinating history.

When you have done with your adventures what better way to end your day than to relax in a warm bubbling hot tub whilst enjoying the clear starry sky.
