The rugged beaches, romantic castles and wilderness of the Northumberland National Park make this often overlooked holiday location blissfully peaceful whilst also breathtakingly beautiful. The National Park itself boasts over 1,000 km of paths to explore, with the Simonside Hills and the Breamish Valley both being fantastic places for walking and hiking. As a designated Dark Sky Park, the area also offers excellent stargazing opportunities with Dark Sky Discovery Sites at Cawfields and Walltown Country Park. Keen star gazers can take a look through powerful telescopes at The Kielder Observatory to look for planets, stars and galaxies.
Northumberland's coastline is home to some of England’s most beautiful unspoilt beaches. The vast stretch of sand at Bamborough Beach is dog friendly all year round and it’s also a popular spot for surfing. The stunning views of the iconic Bamburgh Castle are the icing on the cake! The sheltered beach at Beadnell Bay makes it a fantastic location for watersports such as kitesurfing, windsurfing, wakeboarding, sailing and waterskiing. If you fancy a trip out to the Farne Islands, located off the coast near Seahouses and Beadnell, you can also go diving and snorkelling.
Any history buffs will be delighted to know that there are over 70 castle sites in Northumberland. Take your pick from the romantic ruins at Dunstanburgh Castle, fortified manor houses such as Aydon Castle and Belsay Hall, Castle and Gardens or the Majestic castles at Bamburgh and Alnwick.
There is no better way to end a day of adventures to return home to a luxurious holiday retreat.
