The Piggery is a pretty stone property located in the small agricultural village of Shipton Gorge in West Dorset. As the name suggests, it was originally two pigsties, but was rebuilt in 1985 to become the charming cottage that it is today. Recently renovated to a high standard, including modern day furnishings and equipment such as integral USB ports and blackout blinds throughout, a coffee machine, Smart TV and luxury bedding, it is the perfect retreat if you are looking to escape to rural Dorset. With one double bedroom, and a sofa bed to accommodate two extra guests, it is ideal for couples or friends wishing to holiday together.
The pretty village of Shipton Gorge is everything you would expect a small West Dorset village to be. With a village church, a fantastic community pub with a beer garden and fabulous countryside views, it is the epitome of rural bliss. Take a walk along the ancient footpaths to the top of Shipton Hill where you can enjoy views as far as the sea, or explore the network of footpaths and bridleways that wind their way through the woods. Make sure you keep your eyes peeled for buzzards and a pair of red kites along the way. You can stock up on supplies at the convenience store, garage and farm shop at Burton Bradstock, or head three miles into the market town of Bridport, known as Dorset’s Eventful Town as there is always something going on and plenty to see, for a wider selection of shops including an historic street market each Wednesday and Saturday.
The Piggery is just two miles from the stunning UNESCO Heritage Site of the Jurassic Coast where you will find miles and miles of beautiful and unique coastline with plenty of geographical features to explore. Hive Beach, just five minutes away by car or a half an hour walk via footpaths, is owned by the National Trust and is part of the Chesil beach with amazing sandstone cliffs. It’s a great spot for looking at the ancient geology of the coastline, rock pooling at low tide or simply walking along the beach to admire the view towards Portland and blow the cobwebs away. Once you have finished playing on the beach enjoy a seafood lunch at the popular Hive Beach cafe, or bring your own sarnies and go for a walk along the cliffs. If you head a couple of miles west you will reach the popular resort of West Bay where the TV series Broadchurch was filmed. Enjoy a locally made ice cream as you watch the boats bob up and down in the harbour, go on a fishing trip or take a stroll along the Jurassic Pier. Other day trips within half an hour include the fascinating towns of Lyme Regis, Dorchester or Weymouth.
The Dorset coast is stunning at any time of the year and short breaks as well as longer stays are welcome at The Piggery all year round.

The Piggery is a comfortable and cosy stone cottage that is accessed off a private road. Accommodation is all on one level but there are two steps up to the entrance, making it unsuitable for wheelchair users.
Outside: Step outside where there is a bench and go down a few steps to a small grass area that has a bistro set, perfect for alfresco dining on sunny days. There is plenty of space for off road parking for two cars.
Additional information: WiFi, bed linen, towels and utilities are included. There is gas central heating with a thermostat control. Dogs and smoking are not permitted.
Maps of all the footpaths in the parish are now provided so that keen walkers can easily follow them and make the most of our countryside. A travel cot is available if required.
