About West Bay Cottage

West Bay Cottage is a fantastic holiday home in the heart of one of the most sought after villages in Dorset. The Grade II listed cottage is within walking distance of both West Bay's beaches and the harbour, as well as pubs, restaurants and cafes. West Bay Cottage can sleep up to four people in two bedrooms, and it is as popular with couples as it is with small families and friends.

You could not find a better location to stay while exploring Dorset and the Jurassic Coastline than West Bay. Smaller than neighbouring Bridport, which is a mile and a half inland, its two beautiful beaches - East Beach and West Beach - are a mix of fine shingle and sand. East Beach stretches towards Chesil Beach and Portland Bill, with an enormous cliff that played a dramatic (if silent) role in the BBC series, Broadchurch. West Beach's sheltered location makes it a favourite for swimming, especially with those with younger children. The harbour and marina are always busy, especially in summer, and if you fancy a different water view then hire a boat and take a picnic lunch along the River Brit. West Bay has two piers and lots of places to eat and drink.

The nearby town of Bridport is five minutes by car or 25-minutes on foot via an old railway line and past a brewery, providing everything you need for a relaxed self-catering holiday in Dorset. A thriving market runs every Wednesday and Saturday, and there is also a good variety of high street shops and independent retailers. The stylish art-deco cinema has a full programme of films and live entertainment, and the town also has a museum and lots of places to eat and drink. Further shops and amenities are available 10-miles away in the resort town of Lyme Regis, while Weymouth is around 35-minutes in the car.

West Dorset is a great place for a holiday, somewhere you can breathe in the fresh sea air and breath out the stress of your busy day-to-day life. The Jurassic Coastline is a World Heritage Site where adults and children alike can unleash their inner Famous Five and enjoy adventures of their own making. Hunt for fossils, try crabbing along the harbour walls and stride along the cliff-top footpaths. Visitors can enjoy country walks, fishing, sailing and surfboarding, as well as visits to attractions such as Hardy's Cottage, Abbotsbury Swannery, the Jurassic Skyline and the Sealife Adventure Park.

West Bay Cottage provides a warm welcome in any season, offering guests a comfortable place to stay while discovering the delights of West Dorset.

Location (Dorset)

Accommodation Comprises:

West Bay Cottage is a pretty whitewashed house with accommodation over two levels. Its owners have carefully modernised the cottage while respecting its Grade II Listed status, retaining original character and incorporating the modern conveniences contemporary visitors expect.

Downstairs:

  • Much of the ground floor is open plan with the living room, dining room and kitchen flowing seamlessly from front to back, enjoying multi-aspect windows that let in lots of natural light. Flagstone floors and a neutral colour scheme give it a timeless appeal.
  • The living area is a comfortable space. The cottage has efficient central heating, so the cosy log burner is more for ambience than necessity, and it is a lovely touch in the colder months. The room has a Smart LED TV with Freeview channels and a DVD/Blu-ray player, and there is also a micro hi-fi with CD player and Bluetooth functionality. The owners have thoughtfully provided a selection of books, maps and information about the local area to help guests make the most of their stay, and the cottage has free WiFi.
  • Dining area with a table and seating for four, close to the kitchen so the chef does not feel isolated. The fitted kitchen has plenty of utensils, crockery and cutlery, as well as ample cupboard and fridge space for storing your shopping.
  • Tiled family bathroom at the rear of the property, next to a handy lobby area where you can leave your sandy shoes and beach gear. The bathroom has a shower over the bath, WC and handbasin.

Upstairs:

  • Original floorboards and sash windows feature in both the bedrooms.
  • Master bedroom with a double bed and hanging storage, which enjoys views of the gardens towards North Hill.
  • Second bedroom which is a lovely twin room with a standard, 3ft single bed as well as a slightly narrower, 2ft 6in bed that has been custom built to fit into an alcove. There are books and toys to suit younger children, who can look out of the window to the boatyard and the beautiful Brit Valley.

Outside: West Bay Cottage has paved gardens both front and rear. The patio at the back of the cottage has garden furniture and a parasol so you can enjoy eating outdoors in good weather.

Additional Information: WiFi, utilities, sheets and bath towels are included. Guests are asked to bring beach towels and cot linen (if required). Short breaks (minimum three nights) and flexible arrival days are possible outside of school holidays. Smoking and pets are not permitted.
