Stiperstones View - Shelve, Minsterley, Shropshire, England - Sleeps 2
Lower Farm Holidays offer two delightful holiday retreats that are perfect for couples, located in the beautiful South Shropshire rolling countryside. With wonderful walking and stunning views, the cottages provide a peaceful getaway that is still within easy reach of Shrewsbury, Ludlow, the Stretton Hills and the Ironbridge Gorge.
Lower Farm sits in an enviable position in the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty within the tiny village of Shelve which enjoys panoramic views over the surrounding countryside. The farm offers the chance to get away from it all and enjoy a slower pace of life – we are officially a mobile phones “not spot” so they don't work and the only distraction is the beautiful surrounding scenery (there is Wi-Fi internet access for those who just have to make contact with the outside world!).
The house and its outbuildings have been lovingly restored using traditional building techniques and sustainable materials to preserve the character of the farmstead. Guests are welcome to wander over four acres of pastureland, home to sheep and free range chickens and can enjoy produce when in season from the vegetable garden which is run on organic principles.
This is the finest of walking country, whether you enjoy a gentle stroll to Shelve Pool (a tranquil spot to relax) the challenge of hiking to the Devil's chair, the challenge of the Stiperstones Stomp or even a day's trip to Bishops Castle - all starting straight from the cottage door. The farm also sits on the route of the 'Flenny Bank Walk' and Walking-with-Offa circular taking in The Bog (allowing you to discover Stiperstones pure beauty) as well as the BC-ring. The Mucklewick Walk can be picked up just down the hill and it is possible to join the Shropshire Way and walk to Bishops Castle and then catch the bus back. In addition, the farm is a few minutes' drive or a stroll from the Stiperstones ridge and there are plenty of other walks in the surrounding area that can be enjoyed. The Shropshire Hills Shuttle on summer weekends also provides access to many walking areas and allows you to explore the surrounding countryside without the use of a car.
The area is popular with cyclists, MTB and other types can be hired locally and the owners provide secure bike storage should you wish to bring your own. There are also local opportunities for those who enjoy fishing.
Bishop’s Castle, a small rural town with great range of boutique shops, traditional pubs and breweries, coffee shops and a small weekly market selling fresh vegetables and general goods is easy to reach by car and just nine miles away. On the third Saturday of each month, there is also a farmers market for stocking up on local produce. With its own unique character, many people fall for Bishop's Castle's quirky charm.
Ludlow and Shrewsbury are also within easy reach, offering a more sophisticated shopping experience in a lovely setting with historic buildings, shops and fantastic restaurants. Telford is also a popular choice for serious shoppers with shopping malls and big name stores. Ironbridge Gorge with its 10 museums is less than an hour away, as is David Austin Roses, RAF Cosford aircraft museum, Severn Valley steam railway at Bridgnorth plus lots of history just over the border in Wales.
