Nuthatch Cottage is a lovely 4 Star holiday cottage on the family-run Castle Farm (not a working farm) in the rural Shropshire hamlet of Dudleston. It is comfortable for families and couples, including those with dogs, as it sleeps four people in two bedrooms and has a private enclosed patio with a hot tub. It's a fantastic area for a walking or cycling holiday as there are beautiful footpaths, bridleways and cycling routes accessible from the gate. Shropshire is a holiday destination for all seasons. It has lovely countryside, but it also has charming villages, friendly towns, historic buildings, and activities to suit all interests and abilities. Nuthatch Cottage is one and a half miles from the nearest pub at St Martins and two miles from the nearest supermarket.
Dudleston is a quiet rural hamlet five miles from Ellesmere, where you will find all of the shops and amenities you could need for your self-catering holiday. Ellesmere is the biggest of the Shropshire meres, or glacial lakes, for which this area is well known. It's a favourite natural spot for locals and visitors, with people fishing, boating, birdwatching, walking and cycling. The town centre is an attractive mix of medieval lanes, half-timbered Georgian buildings, independent shops, restaurants, cafes and pubs. A local bike shop can arrange to hire bicycles with delivery and collection from the cottage, making it even easier to enjoy being outdoors. If you need more variety, Oswestry is just eight miles from the house.
Ideas for days out include cycling beside the Llangollen Canal to Chirk Aqueduct and Chirk Castle with 480-acres of beautiful parkland. See the impressive Pistyll Rhaedr waterfall, sail on Lake Vrynwy, or head to Talacre beach and lighthouse for a day at the seaside. The Roman city of Chester is under an hour's drive, with fancy boutiques, an award-winning zoo, and historic ruins, while Liverpool is a little further but still within a 90-minute drive for a fun day of shopping, sightseeing, and Beatles nostalgia. Closer to home, why not visit Erddig Hall, Attingham Park, Powis Castle, or the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct.
Nuthatch Cottage is one of two 4-Star holiday cottages at Castle Farm. They are semi-detached but completely private and self-contained. Depending on availability, you can book the cottages together to accommodate extended families or two families who want to holiday together without sharing a cottage. Outside: The enclosed paved patio has an outdoor dining table and chairs and a hot tub. There is a field opposite the cottage where guests are very welcome to take their dogs from March to November. There is parking for two cars.
Additional Information: Utilities, WiFi, bed linen and bath towels are provided. Guests to bring towels for use by the hot tub. Nuthatch Cottage can be booked without use of a hot tub at a reduced price, all prices shown include use of hot tub. Two to three well-behaved dogs are welcome by arrangement for no extra charge. Short breaks are possible, depending on availability. A £100 refundable security bond is required the week prior to your holiday. Smoking/vaping is not permitted in cottages.
