Gorse Cottage is perfect for couples who want a peaceful retreat in a beautiful setting. It is on Ryton Farm near Dorrington in the glorious rolling Shropshire countryside and just a short walk from the village pub and walking distance of the owners fishing ponds. The cottage can be hired individually or together with one of the other cottages on the farm to accommodate larger parties of extended family or friends (sorry but no children under 14).
Ryton Farm is a beautiful setting for a holiday. Despite being easy to reach, it is away from main roads and is lovely and peaceful. There is lots of outdoor space and well-behaved dogs are welcome, so guests can step outside the front door and enjoy being close to some of Shropshire's 3,500 miles of walking routes, including through the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) to places like The Lawley and Caer Caradoc. Cyclists also have a great choice of routes encompassing everything from smooth roads to challenging mountain bike trails - all with fantastic views as their reward. Anglers will appreciate the owner's six well-stocked coarse fishing ponds which are just a ten-minute walk from the cottage and only open to guests at Ryton Farm.
The county town of Shrewsbury is seven miles from Gorse Cottage and a fantastic place for a day out. Settled around the year 901, the town is a wealth of historic sights including Tudor black and white buildings, museums, galleries and shops. There is a vibrant weekly market, excellent pubs and a quay beside the Severn River from which you can take a boat trip along the River Severn. Charles Darwin was born in Shrewsbury and christened at St Chad's Church, where there is a tombstone for the fictional character, Ebenezer Scrooge - a remnant prop from a film set). Other great places for a day out include Ludlow, which has an enormous number of great places to eat considering its size, and Church Stretton, known for its antique shops and cafes.
Favourite local attractions include The Dana prison in Shrewsbury which is open daily for tours or, for the brave, the occasional night-time ghost tour! Attingham Park, a lovely National Trust property, is also nearby, as are the Battlefield Falconry Centre, Pitchford Hall, the Wroxeter Roman Vineyard and Ironbridge.
There is plenty to see and do around Gorse Cottage. Whatever your purpose for visiting, you will feel welcome and comfortable.
