Ruperts Retreat is a romantic bolthole sitting in beautiful Shropshire countryside, just a ten-minute drive from the market town of Bridgnorth. This charming holiday cottage sits amongst 160 acres of farmland with fantastic walking, biking, fishing and horse riding nearby. Sleeping two guests in one king size bedroom, it is perfect for couples looking for a quiet country getaway whilst only being a stone’s throw from a number of different places to eat, drink and explore.
There is something to do at any time of the year in the pretty town of Bridgnorth. Surrounded by stunning countryside views and the River Severn, it is a walkers and anglers paradise, whilst there is also a host of all-weather attractions for those inclement weather days. Once Europe’s busiest river port, Bridgnorth is now a laid-back town where you can enjoy a peaceful riverside stroll or admire the mixture of medieval, Tudor and Georgian architecture as you explore the many shops, cafes and pubs. Don’t miss the Bridgnorth Cliff Railway, a late-Victorian funicular which climbs up and down the 111-foot cliff carrying passengers between Low Town and High Town. King Charles I visited Bridgnorth in 1642 and remarked that the view from the top was one of the finest in England and you'll find it difficult to disagree. If you are looking to explore further afield, Ludlow and Shrewsbury are both excellent choices for a days’ shopping or a leisurely lunch.
There are plenty of local attractions nearby to satisfy all ages and interests. Find out more about the local area at Northgate Museum, enjoy a walk around Bridgnorth Castle and Gardens, or visit the impressive ruins at Wenlock Priory. Aviation enthusiasts will love the Royal Air Force Museum in Cosford, whilst train fans can enjoy a day out on the heritage Severn Valley Railway. History buffs can immerse themselves in the ten different interactive museums at Ironbridge Gorge or enjoy a family day out exploring the way-marked trails and playground at the Severn Valley Country Park. For those who want to blow away the cobwebs and enjoy the fantastic scenery, the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) is only eight miles away. With river valleys, pretty meadows, ancient woodlands, challenging hilltops and picturesque villages there is a walk or bike ride for all abilities in this beautiful landscape.
